| Currently when making adjustments you are allowed to adjust a TTC dial but you are not allowed to look underneath the base as you adjust the dial. I would like to propose a rule change that would allow you to look at the dial when making the adjustment.
I never could understand why you would allow coaches to adjust the dial, but just not look at it.
Any thoughts or comments?
Thanks.

| I have never seen the man go back to where he was before he was lifted!!!! That's really my hold up with that method. Guys mark it with their finger, but it slides. You may mark your finger on one corner, but when you return him, its the other corner. Now some will say that is nik picky, but this is a game of inches, and every inch counts.
Just my 2 cents.
Any rule changes will go before the div captains and committee, so we will see what happens!!!

| I tend to agree with Joe. It doesn't make much sense to allow a dial to be adjusted, but not allow a coach to look at the dial underneath, since many coaches mark the side of the player's base with a Sharpie as well as the dial itself so both marks either line up exactly to fit a particular directional pattern, or the marks offset if you want to alter the pattern.
Unless we're recruiting blind coaches who read braille, I don't see any logical reason not to amend this rule.

| I concur!
It does make sense to NOT allow a coach to look underneath the base for the reasons stated above.

Currently, the Offense is allowed 2 pivots OR 1 pivot/1 motion after Offensive & Defensive set-up. Generally, these pivots and/or motion are made to RBs, the QB, or a combination of 1 backfield player + 1 wide receiver.
Why can't we allow an additional pivot (within the same 6-seconds)to at least one (1) O-lineman - either a guard, tackle, or center?
The reason I mention this is because sometimes the "D" will be aligned in an 'odd-front,' and an O-lineman can be out of position to make a block on an opposing D-lineman. This gives an unfair advantage to the Defense if the Offense isn't allowed to adjust one of its O-lineman (other than the TE) to get a better angle to make a block on a defender - which might be a "key block" on a particular play. The adjustment would be a pivot - NO picking up the figure and changing the dial on its base [if there is one] UNLESS the league wants to allow it as previously discussed on this forum, above.
Again, I'm not asking for more time to make pivots - just a rule change for a guard, tackle, or center within the same 6 seconds allowed for pivots-motion to RBs, QBs, or a WR.

| I would agree on changing this rule as long as it's done within the 6 seconds. In addition, respotting is very critical. The buzzball box (the ones Joe has used previously) should most definitely be used in tight situations for tackles, etc... I believe this is only being proposed to make tackles only??? Would or should this be a universal change. Meaning, for "O's" motion also.

| Andrew,
To answer your question at the close of your Dec. 22 post, I believe it should be a universal change that applies to both "O" and "D." If the end result is that it brings a new level of fairness and balance to the game, no coach should object.

| I seriously doubt that those changes will be made guys. The no advanced pivots is a philly thing, just like the shovel pass, or the any 4 defenders being turned to make a tackle. You will just have to place your safety so that he is in position. There is no limit on how far he can be back. By the way, YOU CAN NOT LAY DOWN PLAYERS AT THE START OF THE PLAY!!!!!! Some coaches were doing this, but this is against the stated rules. So you will just either have them run with the WR or have them run up from deep. Jack what you are talking about requires too much touching. Like Adrian said, keep it simple. Do you think you could pivot or spin a guard around with both teams set within the 6secs, and not disturb the line up???? There are bases (itz) that can go in any direction and only you would know which way he is going. I would suggest doing that than trying to pivot OL. If you pivot him, the defense would get to react to it anyway and that would be offsetting the maneuver.
Things I would like to see discussed is: The Half back option pass... Should you have to use a secondary TTQB to attempt this pass? The kickoff return... Should we be able to put the returner down AFTER the coverage team pivots all their guys? Ala DFW ruleset The NFL changed their playoff OT rule... Do we adept this new change?
Any questions????

| Corey,
To answer your question, i.e. Do you think you could pivot or spin a guard around with both teams set within the 6secs, and not disturb the line up????
It's no sweat to pivot the tackle on the open side (the side with a split end/WR). A tackle covered by a TE next to him is a different matter. Pivoting the center and/or one of the guards is more problematic without disturbing the line-up. Unless you're using wider splits between O-linemen, it would be difficult, I admit that.
Hey, I'm not saying the validity of my suggestion is etched in stone. I was just throwing it out there to see if anyone else thought it had any merit. In hindsight, if it isn't practical, fine. No harm, no foul.

| 1. The Half back option pass... Should you have to use a secondary TTQB to attempt this pass?
I DON'T SEE HOW YOU WOULD ATTEMPT A PASS ON THIS TYPE OF PLAY WITHOUT USING A TTQB. ???? FOR THAT MATTER, WHY CAN'T WE HAVE THE HALFBACK OPTION MORE THAN ONCE PER HALF (OR A WIDE RECEIVER OPTION PASS)? WHY IS THAT A PROBLEM IF THE OFFENSE WANTS TO GO TO IT MORE THAN ONCE PER HALF? BECAUSE THE DEFENSE IS CAUGHT OFF GUARD? I THOUGHT THAT WAS THE STRATEGY BEHIND THE OPTION PLAY. DUH!
2. The kickoff return... Should we be able to put the returner down AFTER the coverage team pivots all their guys? Ala DFW ruleset
YES TO THE FIRST PART. NO TO THE SECOND. WHO SAYS WE HAVE TO ADOPT A RULE JUST BECAUSE THE DFWL HAS IT IN PLACE? DO WE PLAY BY OUR RULES OR THEIRS?
3. The NFL changed their playoff OT rule... Do we adopt this new change?
NO! IN O/T THE FIRST TEAM TO SCORE WINS . . . BY A FIELD GOAL, SAFETY, OR TOUCHDOWN. WHY EXTEND THE GAME JUST BECAUSE BOTH TEAMS MAY MATCH EACH OTHER WITH FIELD GOALS ON THEIR OPENING POSSESSION? THEN, ONE TEAM HAS TO SCORE A TD TO WIN AUTOMATICALLY. AND WHAT IF, AFTER MATCHING FIELD GOALS ARE SCORED, ONE TEAM SCORES A SAFETY AGAINST THE OPPONENT INSTEAD OF A TOUCHDOWN? DOES THAT TEAM WIN OUTRIGHT OR DO WE EXTEND THE GAME FURTHER?
THIS RULE CHANGE BY THE NFL WAS ILL-ADVISED. THEY WOULD'VE BEEN BETTER OFF LEAVING IT ALONE. SO WOULD WE.
Any questions????
