I would like you guys to mull around the idea of having a Military Appreciation Day. For July 23rd against the Knights. We could advertise (radio, newspapers, etc.) To try and draw out some more fans for a game when we should already have a good crowd. Possible suggestions include: giving a complimentary hotdog and/or beverage to all military, running a 50/50 raffle and donating a portion to some veterans affair, donating a portion of the days sales to some veterans affair. Feel free to talk it over and if we decide to do it it should be rather quick so we can get going on the details.

Love this idea. Let's talk at the next couple of games and get some ideas together. If we could get a source for free hats (possibly VFW or local army/navy recruiting?) we could wear one kind of hat and the knights could wear another, kinda like the pros do for their military appreciation day.

This is a fantastic idea. Can we remember to mention Jordan for his service? Great idea MM!

Thanks guys. I think it would be nice if the chips fall into place and we can make it work. Kirby, I love that addition. Keith, he may actually be back by then on leave which would make it even cooler.

Love the idea, Mikey!! If we do something, we can make up flyers and I can put some up at work as well.

I have started to make some contacts to try and get hats for the game. I think the bigger the assortment the better.

Thoughts?

Yep. I'll talk to Erik Hill today and make sure they're in for it as well. Having both teams wear them would be really cool, and I can't imagine that they would be opposed

I've been talking with Erik and he's verifying that the Knights will be in for this and it's looking good to this point. Keith, e-mail me when you find something out about hats. Does anyone know if we can get ahold of the VFW and see if they would be able to provide a color guard and/or someone to sing/play the National Anthem before the game?

I do think we need to put some good though around a way to make this be at least partially a fundraiser for the troops. Even if it's as simple as passing the hat and the money going to the VFW or something like that.

A 50-50 raffle would be another way to raise funds for the vets.

Updates on this: Dad spoke to the VFW and we have a color guard for this day. We are still looking for someone to sing the national anthem though.

We need updates on hats, has anyone just called the RL recruiting office of each branch of the Military?

Also, we should discuss how we want to do the fundraiser and where it's going.

I have a singer for the national anthem. Will it me a capella or with music?

We have a recording of the national anthem but it can just as easily be acapella if the tempo is wrong or if they just prefer to do it w/out

Mikey...what about God Bless America during the 7th inning stretch...I would possibly have someone that would sing this...this young gal's mother that would sing has served in the military...the young gal is an extremely talented singer...

I think that would be great! The more people involved, the better, I think. Any word on those hats Oli? The army has generously donated 40 just in case we can't round up enough.

Mikey-my brother is suppose to get me the name of marine recruiter...however my bro is out of town and I'm not sure if it will work. Finding 40 hats sounds great and encouraging. Good work.

Do we have any other info on hats from other branches of the military? Do we have the 40 army hats in hand?

Ok, please help me verify this info before I send it off to the paper.

National Anthem to be sung by Sarah Hansen of Barron
God Bless America sung in the 7th inning stretch by Megan Nipe, 7th grader from Birchwood Middle School & daughter of Kim Nipe, former Army & Air-Force
Color Guard will be there, and will start doing their thing around 12:45
Both teams will be wearing military hats
We will take a collection fro a local family (I NEED THE NAME OF THIS FAMILY, THE SERVICE MEMBER, AND WHERE THEY ARE SERVING)
We are giving away ONE free hot dog to each military member there, active or retired

Is there anything I've missed or gotten wrong?

Are we well stocked for Saturday? Do we have a contingency plan if we start to run low on things? I'm not sure how big the crowd will be but if we have the fortunate problem of having a lot of people that I just want to make sure we're ready.

Marketplace has pop on sale this week: 2/$10 coke products (24 packs) and $4.99 pepsi products (24 packs). Should we (the jensens) pick up another box of hotdogs from Frisinger's tomorrow?

Just talked to dad-the stand should be well stocked and able to handle a big crowd.
