Just because the other team asks for an appeal on a tag up play does not mean the runner left early! Our umps better make be sure beyond a shadow of a doubt that the runner left early!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice “angry face” on your post.

In the immortal words of Ilya Bryzgalov in his famous Score interview… “It's only a game. Why do you heff to be mad?”

Thanks. I was going to put the red angry face up, but thought that was just going too far!

Just frustrated because it was basically a non-play. The fly ball was right at the fence, there was no chance whatsoever for the player to throw the runner out, and there was no way the player left early. In my opinion it has to be so obvious, which usually happens with a novice player. This player happens to play about 150 games a year. His thought process on the play was to stay on the bag and make sure there is no chance for a call like that because there was certainly no chance to get thrown out. Just a call that was not necessary in the context of the game.

Injury Prone,
If you’ll allow me, let me explain a few things in terms of what umpires do. A while back, I worked out that over a course of our USPL regular and playoff season, the umpires would make something like…
- 15,000 Safe/Out Calls
- 75,000 Ball/Strike Calls
- 5,000 Fair/Foul Calls
- 2,000 HR/Ground Rule Double Calls
- 2,000 Other Rule Calls such as appeals, interference/obstruction, infield fly, base awards on over-throws, etc.

In other words, somewhere around 100,000 judgment calls are made per year by the umpires (which calculates out to 400 per game). That’s a lot going on for one guy, especially when these calls happen quickly or around the same time. Try as he might, an umpire literally cannot have his eyes on everything that is going on. Sometimes he see things, and other times he doesn’t. Usually, though, he sees most things.

I guarantee each and everyone one of the umpires tries to get EVERY call right. Does it happen? ABSOLUTELY NOT. (Just ask Houghts how I kicked a call on him at first base the other night!). But I would say that we get a pretty high percentage correct.

I appreciate your need to vent. I’m just posting this to maybe help you realize that whether the call that was made against you was right or wrong, in the big scheme of things, it’s just one call. One call of 100,000! Let’s all get over it, move on, and have some fun.

Thanks, and good luck.

OMG, Some players are sooo moody. I think we are officially hitting "those" years. Sigh.

Play the game, do not blame the umpires for your inabilities to run, hit or field the ball.

The whole league has been chirpy this year ... It is dumb pure and simple, and there is absolutely no excuse for it. The ump makes a call....good or bad move on. Show some maturity.

It was only a matter of time for MBA89, who seems to fancy himself as the "voice of reason" for the league to chip in!
Let me make this clear, I really like all the umps in our league. I think they do a great job. They make a hell of a lot less mistakes on the field than I do!

Excellent analysis professor injured all the time. But, like girlfriends, wives , sisters and mothers...we generally employ a " dont go there " rule when it comes to SMACKIN with the umpires

If we're going to complain aboput Umps why don't we look at going back to the 2-Ump system? I doubt the Umps would argue. I think they do a fine job and those stats are interesting Jim, needless to say you're going to get a few wrong (and then hear about it:)!
But we paid a price when we went to one ump system and I think the Umps would agree. Still can't get an answer other than 'other leagues don't have two' as for why we ever moved away from that system. It was one of the things that made this league better than so many others. Just my two cents.

One thing that is evident this year is the inability of some teams to take a joke. I think that it was pretty obvious that many comments were lighthearted attempt at levity on an increasingly boring smack board. I was under the impression that Kelsey's were a group of fun guys that were not above being teased a bit. Maybe I was wrong or maybe they are truly the best team in the league. Some teams are winning games for the first time and can't seem to act professionally. Look at the behavior of Griffith, School, DBS and MAS.  Try to relax a little, inspire to be like Remax.

To the forum,

Please don't take the comments of one guy ("Paul"), as comments from our entire team. The other members of Kelsey's are great guys and we get along great and have alot of good times tipping back pints after the game. Paul's not a bad guy either, he just grew up in a world of smack talk, and hasn't yet learned it's better if you just ignore negative comments from other people.

Paul was warned by Kelsey's that his board warrioring had gone too far.

He has been fined 2 pitchers of beer for his last post. If he continues to run his mouth on these forums, we will have to come to some sort of other arrangement with Paul.

From all members of Kelsey's besides Paul. We are embarressed as a team by his conduct on these forums, and apologize for any negatvity towards our team that he has caused.

Please go back to making fun of Hatzis, who is clearly the best player in the league. He's gone on an unbelievable stretch for him of (5 for 19 - 0.263 average) in his last 4 games.

Congratulations Chris!!!

I believe that, like with the Unionville Arms, there needs to be a “2011 Kelsey’s” thread, instead of highjacking other forum topics.

The new thread should be for all things Kelsey’s. Comment about the team, their players, and especially their chances for success in the playoffs.

I’ll leave it up to THE WAY IT IS to get it started (it’s only fitting).

Gimme, you are correct.
I believe that perhaps Paul should start his own post under his own name and not Kelsey's as his opinions are not that of the group and certainly not reflective of that of the sponsor.
As a long time sponsor in the league I would not want any of the comments on this forum to reflect poorly on the impression members may have of my businesses.
Thanks
BJ Morrow

Yes BJ you are correct. All comment I make on this form are not the opinions of my teammate or the sponsor of Kelsey’s.

Maybe I should listen to my whole team and stop commenting on all the negative posts against Kelsey’s on this form but it is difficult.

I have been playing on this team for 3 years and the first two years we have had bad standings and still getting shit on by people on this form and they were right, we were shit so I couldn't say anything.

This year we are playing more as a team, having fun and actually winning some games and still people are talking shit, so now that Kelsey's has the stats to back up all the negative talk about us. Yes I am going to post and defend our team. I don't mean anything negative towards any other team out there I am just happy and proud that our team is actually doing well this year.

So if everyone is getting offended by me being proud and posting "yeah we won" and taking it the wrong way then I will not post anymore.

When I post, I am not putting the team we played down at all, I am just posting showing I am happy and proud that we won a hard fought battle at the ball park. The people that are thinking it is against their team personally, give your head a shake, I would never put down another team or player, we are all in this together and here to have fun and play ball.

So I will take my teams advice and not post or comment anymore on this form

Good luck to everyone

I second that!

Kelsey's is an outstanding organization...and BJ and the others do a great job with his customers.

Seemed like it got a lil personal earlier this week, but it's all in good fun. Gotta keep the rivalry alive right?

We're all cool...but next week it's GAMETIME!!

You think that something's happening tonight at Crosby and it's bigger than your life. In the playoffs will you still remember the play at first or the big hit from tonight? Play, play the game tonight. Can you tell me if it's wrong or right, it is worth the time, is it worth the price. Do you see yourself in the spotlight as we take care of Kelsey’s tonight?

I would be willing to bet that most of the upper level teams in the league have good records when they are the home team. Most teams play better when they are defending their home field...am I right? Do they pay off the umpires too? One thing I remember when I was younger and coaching kids was teaching the kids accountability, and to take responsibility without blaming others, perhaps they win at home because they were the better team that day. Bad calls are a part of the game, nobody is perfect.
