| While I am sure we have many great male players who deserve consideration, I doubt there are many that can match the record of Carol Byrd Lewis. Carol played on an ASA "Major" National Champion and 5 ASA Class "A" National Champions. She was MVP 3 of those times. She was First Team "All American" 5 times. In addition she played on teams that won 7 ASA "35 and Over" National Champions and was First Team "All American" 5 times.

| Jim, this is my entire point of why we should at least think of who we truly believe made a difference and dedicated their entire life making this great game of softball relevent in everybody's life - male and female. It was to generate a discussion amongst genders. This all started in open fields, where defence, hitting the cutoff man, turning double plays made the difference in determining state championships. Games where 3-2, 20-4, 8-6, you know what I'm saying. Please let's discuss this and bring out persons such as Carol Byrd Lewis. The point is displaying 20-30 names of relevence and more. By having these discussions between the entire 50 plus years of maryland softball. I was asked to shut this discussion down, by individuals not the majority. So please tell me why you believe Carol made a difference in softball, and reached such a pinnicale in the game that you felt it nessessary to keep the topic going. This may stop here, and then again......................... thanks Jim.

| Jim, Thanks for bringing Carol into this discussion. I can't say that I know her or ever saw her play but, because of you, I now have an overview of what I missed. She obviously was a top player in her time. That is the purpose of the FORUM.
I know that Eddie Miles has had some complaints about posting Mount Rushmore. I think it was a great idea but limited the discussion. I would like to see something that would include a much broader base, catagories such as, the top 10 position players of each decade and the reason for your choices. This would make for some lively discussion and bring back many names from the past! And don't forget, this is a statewide organization which includes participants from every county. Those from PG and Montgomery counties are NOT excuded because they played in the DC Metro. Unless something has changed, those counties are still in Maryland.
