| I believe the first round is single elimination and those dates are Aug. 10th, 11th and 12th. The second round is double elimination and those dates are Aug. 17th, 18th and 19th.

| Why did the first round go to single elimination? Any team that makes the state tournament should be guaranteed 2 games. There had to be some logic behind this, my guess is to save more money bye having less games. Personally think its a dumb idea and takes a lot of the fun out of the state tournament. Is it single elimation then for the 1 sees if they lose there first game as well? Meaning a 2 or 3 seed would have to win there first 2 games or be out?

| 11th= Single Elim-2 and 3 Seeds play starting at 10am and finishing at 7pm 12th= Single Elim- 2/3 vs. 1 seeds to get to final 4
17th-19th= Double Elim- Final 4 teams play double elim to name a champion.
From what I've heard the goal was to eliminate the weekday games because of the cost of putting those games on and the difficulty of finding volunteers was too much of a burden. The other idea that was floated out there was to switch to an 8 team double elim but some leagues shot that idea down because each league would have to give up a seed in the tourney. One thing that can be said for this style is that there will be some super intense games early on in that single elim. Plus if a team does lose one of those first two games in the old format it is very difficult to make it to the title game with any pitching what so ever.

| With the dwindling of Class A teams I would be in favor of a 8 team double elimation and get away with the way this tournament is set up. The set-up gives a serious disadvantage to teams playing in the first round as they have to win 2 games in a row or there season is over. I have seen teams come back deep in the loser bracket and makes for a lot of fun baseball. Chances of them winning are slim but makes the state tournament fun for teams besides Minnetonka. Wipe the slate clean next year and go with 2 teams from each league and stick with the double elimation tournament for a even playing field for all 8 teams!

| I would also love to see the playoffs in league play switched instead of playing a team in the best 2 out of 3 series. Why not seed all teams in the league and have a double elimation tournament to end the season. Top 2 teams go to state, with the winner #1 seed in each league loser gets #2 seed. Saint Paul league does it did this in the past years and made an even playing field for all teams to get to state and not just versus one team in a 2 out of 3. I love this idea and would like to hear what other people think?

| I actually like the best-of-three series in the league playoffs. It gives every team from top to bottom something to play for through the end of the season. It also feeds rivalries, which is good for competitive nature of the league.
The single elim weekend at the state tournament is definitely odd, but I can understand the rationale for employing this format. In a league like the Riverview, paring the number of qualifying teams to two would put any team not named Park or Tonka at a serious disadvantage every year. That's not to say that a third team is entitled to a playoff spot, but some degree of parity is always good for the long-term success of a league.

| Minnetonka is heading to another class next season, so the Riverview would have like 5 or 6 teams. I would say the Riverview would have an easy shot for any two teams to make state. Time to add some teams or merge the Riverview with another league.

| It sounds like keeping Class A only within the confines of the 694-494 loop is what needs to change. Class A should be able to broaden its horizon and thus gain more teams.

| Part of the problem is the enthusiasm gap, which is due at least in part to geography. When you get into Class B and C territory, there is a sense of community around the local ballclub. For whatever reason, that is lacking in the metro area. Perhaps because there are so many other things to do around town, that there is less excitement around catching an amateur baseball game.
For starters, more Class A players need to go out and WATCH the tournament. Just because your team has been eliminated from the playoffs, shouldn't mean that the season is over. Go and out and catch a few tournament games. Encourage your players to go as a group. Load up the car and head out to Bloomington to see what you're playing for each summer. Doing so will help increase the pride, respect, and sense of camaraderie around your league.

| Just to be clear, I was offering my take on why the state tournament this year is heavy on the weekend scheduling. I went to several weeknight games last August, and aside from the family and friends of the 2 teams playing each night, attendance was sparse. It would be nice if the 7 or 8 teams who didn't make the tournament from each league would try to attend a few games anyway to show their support. There are some teams that did, but a lot that didn't.
