FLORIDA: Sunshine State teams finished 1-2-3 last year, and they will start that way this season. Montverde Academy has five seniors committed to NCAA Division I programs. Cypress Bay and Boca Raton were able to keep their Academy players for another run at state glory. It might be interesting to watch the emergence of Northern Florida programs, which historically have not fared well. Right now, it seems the best soccer is played at the extremes of the state — south in the Fort Lauderdale region and north in Tallahassee and Jacksonville.

TOP STORY: The Montverde Academy (Fla.) dynasty lives on. After graduating six NCAA Division I signees last year, the program has five NCAA Division I commits in its current senior class, and coupled with an undefeated streak that dates to 2010, there’s no easier choice for No. 1 in the first ranking of the season. It should be noted, the preseason rankings were compiled prior to the start of the winter season and do not reflect matches played this season. Next week’s rankings will reflect games played and the ranking order is likely to significantly change.

BIG MOVER: None.

NEWCOMERS: None.

NOTES: The winter season includes the following states: Arizona, California (winter), Florida, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas.
