| I guess ill update the smack world...
In efforts to plump up our league we voted in a new bylaw tonite allowing teams to add 5 exempt players if they're a non playoff team from the previous season.
I like this rule bcuz it'll take away any excuses or disallow any teams to complain when they get smashed by anutha team....
..the lower bracket teams should fare well with this new bargaining chip..there's no reason u can't go out & solicit "5" solid players to draft onto your team & become more competitive!
My take on it is my opinion. I'm sure there's sum tht disagree but I welcome the competetive format!.. no1 wants to lay a team down..if yur a true athlete & competitor u want to play teams that bring the best outta u!..

| My apologies about the wall of text here but I feel that the issues brought up last night should merit discussion league wide so I will bring up my points, some may agree, some may disagree.
I will be curious to see if the new exemption expansion actually fills the purpose of people filling their teams let alone make them better. Seems like a knee jerk reaction to me but we voted to allow it to help out the other teams. I do feel bad for the teams that have built up their teams the right way through the process of acquiring over years. The lower brackets have expanded from 2 to 5 exemptions in a matter of a few years, I'm also curious if we bump it again next year or the year after due to roster fear again, that's the only reason I initially voted no. If an exempt player is coming into the league, do you really think he's going to play for a weaker team if he has the option to join a better team? Also, as the gentleman next to me from On The Rochs said to me at the meeting, just because a player is exempt, it does not mean he's an all star so that is also something to consider.
After thinking about it some more, I think as a league, we should probably do some research on why the league is losing so many players and what we can do to help keep the losses minimal each year. I'm sure the managers know why they lost most of their players, maybe we could collect all of this information and determine if there's anything we could do going forward? We acted last night in the interest of teams filling their teams, we should also be considering changing things to help keep attrition down or we'll run out of people to sign up. Similar to those pyramid schemes, you eventually run out of new people to sign up.
I understand the desire to be competitive and we (Stallyns) want to be competitive as well but I often wonder how many people are turned away because it is too competitive? Maybe the current Coventry residents that are not playing in the league don't want to because of the fierce competition? Each year we get the push to bring in more Coventry residents and there's not many left out there that are free agents and want to play. I'm not advocating decreasing competition, just a thought. Is it the times we play, the money, competition, rules, etc?
As Ian pointed out last night, roster fear is at it's highest and yet I have a FULL squad of guys ready and willing to take our beatings. I realize the teams have their reasons but I am completely baffled as to how teams are at the brink of falling out over their roster. I also realize that you want to stay competitive and bring in talent to fill your roster but you can't be competitive if you can't even field a team. As we do each year, we're bringing in new bodies with minimal softball experience to fill our roster. It's better than not playing in our opinion. This is not a shot at any specific team, this is targeted more at the teams with many vacancies to fill.

| I mean is really short hand if you turn a 4 letter word into a 3 letter word. #abbreviation? My only thought is that this by law should be amended to void forfeited games, or multiple games in a season. Perhaps Mert can chime in seeing he put a lot of work in on the current by laws

| So a team on the cusp of making playoffs, could lose a few say on purpose not make playoffs and actually be in better shape. Not that a team would do this

| Smokey, eventually Artie will realize he blows at golf almost as much as he does at hitting a softball and he will return.
