| Based on what happened this week in my game and what Frank, the umpire, told me was being argued the previous week, it is necessary for me to clear up any confusion with the tree at that field.
The trees surrounding the INSIDE of the fence in the Centerfield - Rightfield areas are considered "IN PLAY" and ruled a live ball and is "ALL YOU CAN GET". That said, once a ball goes into and hits any part of the trees,it CANNOT be caught for an out, regardless if you catch it before it hits the ground.
If a ball is hit into the trees, bounces around it and then drop inside the fence, it's all you can get. If a ball is hit into the trees and bounces and untimately lands over the fence, it is a homerun.
Some teams argue it's an out if caught, some said it should be a double if it hits the tree period. This is wrong. It is a live ball, all you can get.
My easiest example is Fenway Park. If anyone has watched a game when the baseball hits the wall, it's live. It cannot be caught off the wall for an out. The trees are treated the same way.
Hopefully there's no confusion anymore.
This ground rule at Pleasant Hills has been the ground rule every since I've started played at that field in 1991. It's not something new, nor is a rule I just created to benefit my team. (as someone kindly suggested during our game.)
