| Woke up this morning and read some scores, how does a team score 40 plus runs in a game without running up the score?

| I noticed some of the blow outs this year as well...This is the first league I've played in without a 'mercy' rule. It is a different game (not necessarily worse) when there is no mercy involved as the opportunity for blow outs is greater. I believe that a mercy rule with an open last inning is effective in keeping games a bit tighter and ensures a full game is played. There are some benefits to having no mercy as well such as always having the opportunity to come back.
Its just the way it is in the USPL...show no mercy LOL. In some cases it can lead to poor sportsmanship, in others it leads to wide open back and forth games.

| Let's take a poll. Would you be in favour of having a "runs scored per inning" mercy rule? Not a "game ending" mercy rule.
Say ...maximum runs scored per inning at 7 with the last inning being declared open?

| If it's not broken then don't fix it! Why does it seem that the worst teams seem to have the biggest voices. It's simple get better and stop blaming the league rules etc. It's not the problem!

| No change needed, I agree with you Tarheel. The question is "42 runs, why". It reads like a revenge or a loud message to the other team.

| Reading the thread it doesn't seem like anyone posted a complaint and one individual started an informal pole...I don't think this will lead to any changes to the precious rules of the USPL.
Regardless of how bad a team is playing (may not be a bad team just a bad evening)there is something to be said about sportsmanship and 42 runs does not imply any from afar but its up to the players who were on the field to make that determination. That is what the first poster is implying.
It should be noted that on any given night, a team may have their best 10, worst 10, or all 15 players in the line-up. Some teams seem to have their best 10-11 on a more consistent basis than others and sometimes blow outs are the result. Doesn't mean a team sucks @tarheel. Everyone goes through the draft process and superstars are not always added to the back end of a roster.

| I was actually watching this game that night. The game was fairly close within 10 runs around the 5th or 6th inning. The Arms were not running up the score at all. They were just hitting the ball hard, a lot of errors on the other team unfortunately. They could have stretched numerous hits into extra bases in one inning but didn't. You can't expect players to go up to the plate and strike out on purpose just to end innings. Hopefully they will slow down because they were looking pretty good that night. The pool boys are a good squad, but every team has off nights.

| Thanks for the insight 1goblue1...sometimes teams are on their game while others are off.

| TBH I did not imply that the Pool Boys were not a good team. What I implied was that it seems like every time there is a small issue in this league we have to have a symposium on the state of the game! It is a one out and the league is fine, no need for changes, polls, etc. Let's just play the games!

| Let me preface this post by stating that I realize it's after the fact and the scores can't be changed now but after some more thought, I have even more issues with the large scores. For the record, I have always voted against the plus two home run rule. We should not get a penalty for hitting a long ball. We should put in a rule that says if a team is up by 12 after 6 innings the game should be over. This will avoid teams like the Arms, Duchess and others running up scores.

| Many teams can and will come back from a 12 run deficit. Your suggestion clearly goes not make sense.

| In life you will meet two kinds of people. Ones who build you up, and ones who tear you down. But in the end, you will thank them both. This is a tough subject because the game still has to played. Big comebacks are exhilarating and blowing a big lead is never good, right Leafs fans.

| I am about out of appropriate biblical references but here goes...
"Give beer to those who are perishing, wine to those who are in anguish"
Proverbs 31:6 I think this is the ancient equivalent of "win or lose we drink the booze"

| A good day feels so amazing after a bad one. It's like a hot bath feels so much better when uve come in from the freezing cold or like beating the crap out of a team that is mouthy. When we play a team of chirpers and give them a good thumping it is a great day.

| I ‘m sorry folks I only possess a rudimentary understanding of modern psychological theories and I am probably not the person to answer this question, all I can say is that the world is full of people who have nothing better to do than be mere annoyances. Basically some teams look for a solid beating because they run their mouths.
