| What's the consensus?
If the answer is NO, then what should happen if a player enters the box with a bat that is known to be hollowed out?

| Why would there be a debate on this?
No, players should not be permitted to do so, and I think a five-game suspension would be a good starting point.

| So....let's say you're a pitcher, and you see a batter coming to the plate with said bat. What do you do? Refuse to pitch until he changes his bat? Notify umpire? There are dozens of these bats being used in Class A.

| First I've heard of this...
Our team uses Max Bats, Baum Bats and Marucci Bats only. No funny biz.
If it occurred, that player would be ostracized and asked to leave our team.
Hope others would follow suit.

| The longest suspension handed out by MLB for a corked/modified bat is 10 games, ~6% of the season. If we work off of that, a player who has a 10 team league and plays 18 league games should get suspended for 1 game.

| I've been in the league for a handful of years now and honestly haven't seen a situation where I thought someone or some team had a corked bat. Not to say that it isn't happening. We want examples....no need to name names...at this point.

| Whats wrong with corked bats? Do they actually help people hit more homeruns? Mine is corked and I dont hit homers. Maybe I didnt do it right.
We should check the guys bats who have the most homers. Any suggestions on who is first to call out?

| Why are we talking about this and who cares. With the exception of Tonka who can hit the ball out basically top to bottom in the lineup, why does it matter?
Its just a higher fly out in my opinion.

| Any DeMarini bat. Barrels are hollowed out and then filled with a foam/carbon material to make the barrel lighter. Slugger is coming out with their version soon called the Hybrid.
Just curious what players opinions on this was.

| It's just interesting that...
(A) they're allowed to be used in wood bat leagues.
(B) if a wood bat were treated the same way (i.e. barrel hollowed out, filled, and plugged) it would be deemed illegal.
(C) because it has the "composite" moniker, it's simply accepted.
We could easily make these, but choose not to. Was just curious to know what players opinions on the subject were.

| Posted the question after seeing how this new Slugger Hybrid is being made, and then seeing a cross-section of the DeMarini. It just seems goofy that these are permitted (weather or not they enhance performance) for game use since they're essentially made just like corking a bat....which is illegal.
The purpose of corking a bat is to make the barrel lighter. Lighter barrel should enhance bat speed. This gives the batter an unfair advantage over the pitcher. Whether it feels like hitting a ball with a wet newspaper over time, it's still an example of the batter trying to gain an advantage over the other team with a piece of equipment, rather than his own skill level.

| I think if you polled most players who use or have used a composite bat. They are not swinging it to gain an advantage, but rather for the added durability. Having to buy a couple bats a season can add up.

| Durability for sure. Not looking for a advantage in town ball. Swinging "good" wood is nice. Buying a bat for $85-$110 and then seeing the grain, I'll buy the composite for the same price or slightly more.

| If using a composite bat (such as a DeMarini) is for durability, you're looking for durability in the handle, since 99.9% of breaks occur in the handle when you miss-hit a ball. If that is the case, why does the barrel need to be doctored? Just asking.....

| Define "doctored". I would think the BBCOR rating system would keep any composite from giving an advantage outside of the handles not breaking on inside pitches. I am assuming you are hinting at composite bats could have rods in the handle but should be completely solid in the barrel?

| Jim, I know you are just trying to increase sales which is fine. But everyone knows that you at Maxbat put out a much more superior product than those crappy composite bats. That is why I only swing Maxbats but bats can get expensive if you break a lot.

| Another way to avoid breaking bats is not swinging at terrible pitches. I've broken 2 bats in the last 5 years. I started using a MaxBat exclusively a few summers ago and they've held up great. If anything, I've had to retire a few bats to BP duty simply because after using the same bat for a whole season, I wanted to break out a fresh one.

These bats are very inexpensive, good quality just not finished. Check them out. Most of our team uses them and love them. This is another way to keep costs down as you can buy 2 for the price of one compared to most other company's bats.
Just my two cents on composite bats, they are crap but durable. People who swing them are actually at a disadvantage compared people who swing real wood, not trying to gain any kind of advantage. This is a non-issue topic that I've wasted lots of time reading.
