| It is hard to believe that this marks the 6th year for the Micah J. Aumen Invitational Race For the Cure Busch Cup Memorial Open, especially after one witnessed the pathetic performance of the eight individuals vying for the crown Tuesday night. It is hard to believe the state of Pennsylvania even allows these guys on the road! But for veteran Scott Meckley his lifelong dreams were finally realized as he came home with the championship bird trophy. The preliminary race saw Meckley, starting from the outside pole, avoid a spinning car and lead from wire to wire. But it wasn't easy as he was challenged by Davey Zaminski in the late stages of the race. Unfortunately for Zaminski the extra weight he carried on his finger to meet the new minimum weight requirements limited his stealthiness. Larry Baumgardner, also impacted by this new weight rule, likewise had trouble navigating the course. Matt Martin, driving the International Harvester sponsored number 18, somehow limped home third in the opener despite having major control problems. "It's not easy driving one of these things when you are used to driving from 18 feet in the air," he said afterward. Rookie invader Aric Benner looked smooth early in the event, but the large American flag he towed on his cart eventually became wrapped around his axle, sending him on a series of violent end-over-end flips. He was uninjured. The same could not be said, however, for Jordan Arnold and Dan Shafer. The two of them had to be extracated from their cars after wild man Micah Aumen forced them both over the outside guardrail and into the bumper boat pool. Arnold, who was not wearing a helmet because no one makes one big enough, complained of head, back, knee, foot, and toe pain after the race and will be relegated to first base duties the rest of the season. Shafer, whose car during the race smoked more than Tom Sixeas, luckily had sunglasses on for protection but he still suffered from a severe case of the hungries. He was transported after the race to Rita's where he was given a blendini. In race number two, no one could tell who finished where as pole sitter Shafer refused to wait for the rest of the field to line up. However, race statistician Aumen pulled out his protractor and declared Meckley the overall winner. Race Master of ceremonies Baumgardner agreed with the ruling, stating, "He's gonna finish last in ping pong as soon as we play, so we might as well give the old man this nugget."
