2) FRIDAY 7/10 : Holbrook's D18 LL Softball Champs went up against perennial powerhouse, Robbinsville and needed to win one of two games to capture the Section 3 Championship. The girls suffered one bad inning in the first game and lost 5-0. The second game was a see-saw battle all the way and one of the most fun and exciting LL games you could ever watch. Holbrook took a 2-0 lead and was tied by Robbinsville in the 3rd. They took a 5-3 lead and we tied it at 5 in the 5th. The 6th inning will forever be one of those "If Only" situations for both teams!! Holbrook went ahead in the top of the inning 7-5 and needed just 3 outs to dethrone the defending Little League World Series Champions!! An amazing position to be in for a program that didn't exist 3 years ago!! (Lets pause while everyone who thinks they are solely responsible for bringing Softball to Holbrook takes a bow...) Sarcasm people...)
Robbinsville put runners on base immediately in the bot 6th and scored a run, to make it 7-6 on a bases loaded ground out. With runners on second and third, the packed crowd somehow knew that the game would end one way or the other with the next batter. A seeing eye grounder up the middle would bring home the tieing run as the runner from second raced home to try and win it. The throw from CF was seconds late as the winning run slid home to break the Holbrook Hearts, 8-7. :(
Our girls made Holbrook proud and they put Robbinsville on notice that there is another sheriff in town and a force to be reckoned with in the future. Many thanks to our girls who truly inspired all of those who had a chance to watch them on this run!! Thanks to Manager Steve Dubiago and coaches John Ski, Steve Tavaska and Mike Dougherty for their efforts and dedication to get the girls to believe that they had a chance to beat Robbinsville!! This team did not have to win to prove that they are true Champions!! :)
