Upon hearing thunder or seeing lightning, the referee suspends play for a minimum of 30 minutes. Each new incidence of thunder or lightning restarts the 30-minute period. If the thunder or lightning happens before the game is supposed to start, the starting time is delayed. No game may be delayed by more than 45 minutes*. Once a game is either delayed by 45 minutes or is forced to (such as for a lightning sighting 20 minutes after the first), the game is abandoned. (Referee entitled to fee.) The timer then picks up from where it left off for the next game. o If the referee wishes to do so, he can waive the 45-minute requirement and wait out the storm with the teams. If he has travel games or other commitments, he is not required to do so.
