| Hi all.
I know the coaches are looking forward to practice starting this week. We have talked and the first few weeks are going to focus on the basics (obviously).
For the new kids, this means we are going to work on learning the rules and basic concepts. For the experienced kids, it will be a review. Lastly, if there are any parents who are new to wrestling, please plan on watching the first few practices. We will be going over basic scoring, so it will help you learn how points are scored (which is how your kids win!).
There are three basic phases of wrestling (neutral, top, and bottom). We are going to start out his week focusing on the neutral position (i.e. both wrestlers on their feet). We are going to go over:
Stance Movement Basic Defense Offensive Shots (single legs and double legs)
Based on how things go will determine how far we progress this week. We (the coaches) have put together a basic curriculum we want to teach this year so we keep a common theme throughout the season. Additionally, should coaches not be able to make a practice, we can still keep the teaching process where it needs to be.
As the early season goes on, we will shift focus from neutral, to top, then to bottom. The goal is to post a quick message at the beginning of the week laying out what we are going over. If we can find them, we will also post some links to videos coaches and wrestlers can watch prior (if they want to).
Hope this helps and we will see you tomorrow.
