Clearly the person that comes up with the TOP 10 and
writes the "clever" blurbs has no idea what they are talking about and slants towards the private schools and the Gables/Pinecrest area in particular when it comes to girls soccer.

Here's some advice. Go watch some games and stop relying on scores. Maybe go see some games west of the Palmetto Expressway and down south. .

Sorry to break the news, but 5A16 STILL remains the District of Death. Reef is by far the top public school team in the county. Palmetto has beaten 2 teams ahead of them in this farce of a Top 10 (Springs at #6 and Gables at #9) and you have South Dade and Ferguson that would BOTH be GMAC invitees if they were in other districts.

Let's take a closer look at Ferguson for example, the 4th best team in that district. They have 6 losses on the season. (2 losses to Reef, 1 loss to Palmetto, 1 loss to South Dade, 1 loss to Gables, and 1 loss to Miami Springs) Half of those 6 losses are to the GMAC finalists and what district are those teams in ?? 5A16. Then they have 2 of those losses to Springs and Gables, that were both invited to GMACs and are both in your TOP 10.

So really what does it take to be a District of Death?? 3 good teams? 4?? Because even though it was an off year for both South Dade and Ferguson, they are still clearly both quality teams.

I also submit to you that you should probably give a little more repsect to those public schools that have to rely on players in their area or some sort of magnet to draw student athletes than to those other schools (the privates) that can offer "scholarships" or pay for professional soccer coaches and not have to rely on a science teacher or security guard to coach their teams.

Anyways, thats enough of my rant. Good luck to all the girs the rest of the way. Hopefully, someone from Dade can bring a state title back home.

Thinks of FIFA rankings........they are just for fun. We do the boys and girls rankings just to recognize some programs that are doing well, yes the rankings are based on opinion and record and the ranking is not factual. The idea here is "recognition" since very few people take the time to promote our beautiful sport.

Please remember that these rankings are just for fun. They do not mean a thing. I am thankful to have a site like this to go to and we should be more appreciative of the person who takes time out of their day to put these rankings together on a regular basis. As far as the private schools versus public schools and their ability to have more options because of funding is spot on. I have always been an advocate that all private schools should have their own classification so they are playing against teams with equal facilities and funding. Please be appreciative for the site we have. Thank you.

I am very appreciative for this site, but at the same time I can feel that the bias towards the private schools and Gables and Springs among the publics is unwarranted. The 2 are not mutually exclusive.

To use their words, Springs is in "one of the easiest districts", and yet they are at 6. And if it weren't for Lourdes being in their district, Gables district would also be a weak district and yet there they are at 9 ahead of Palmetto.

Just have to look as far as yesterday's result to see that Gables was overrated, as they got taken down by Southwest.

Again, I don't know who runs this site, but for the most part they do a pretty great job. I only take exception with the Top 10 and what I consider a slight against some of the teams west of the Palmetto. (Archimedian, Ferguson, South Dade,Terra) Give them the benefit of the doubt too sometimes.....that's all I'm saying.

Most of the Miami Dade Girls teams do not schedule any competition from Broward. I am not sure why?? No offense to the Miami teams, but in general, the strongest girls teams as a whole are in Broward. Many of their second and third place teams in almost every district is as strong and if not stronger than the first place Miami teams. As a county we need to venture outside and schedule these schools more often so the girls can grow competitively. Some schools like Lourdes, Gulliver and Carrolton tend to do this on a regular basis to help prepare and improve their play at the next level, Regionals. Maybe this is why some of the top programs are the top programs in Miami. Many of these Broward schools will travel down on their own dime, so no money out of the public schools budget. Give it a try now and set some dates for next season!
