| Because the game of football starts with ball movement, why not just allow the coach on offense to control the switch, and eliminate handing it to the coach on defense after a certain point in the action? The defense will now appear more realistic, because they will only react to whatever the offense does based on their defensive formation and player adjustments. Keep everything else as is, but only the offense controls the switch.
If however, there is a turnover and the ball can be ran in the other direction, then the defense would take the switch bottom line: the team with the ball operates the switch.
