Check with your team rep, this site had a note regarding the weekend playoff from Sep-24 to the 26 for weeks now. This is an issue of lack of communication or straight old incompetence.

| Thanks for your comments. I receive all the team rep emails forwarded, and I've searched through them again. Haven't found any notice on games being played on a Friday or Saturday.
I've checked the 2021 xls schedule, and it shows playoffs are scheduled for Sep 20/21 and Sep 27/28.
I've checked all the tabs on the site, could you kindly show me where the notice re: games on the weekend?

| Hi JT (and everyone else),
The USPL has always held its playoffs on a weekend, (except for last year due to covid), and this year we had to wait a little bit longer due to local restrictions, before formally announcing being able to get the permits for this years weekend and modified format.
It normally falls around the third weekend of September, with a few games being played during the week in the lead-up to that weekend. There is usually food and drink served at the booth behind home plate at Crosby as well, but again, due to covid, we have to remove this feature for this year. We hope it will return next year.
Apologies to those who may be newer to the league or not aware of this, but this is a longstanding tradition for the USPL. We do our best, as an executive, to communicate to all members and team representatives as quickly and clearly as possible.
Thanks to all for another fun, healthy and great season and I look forward to another exciting conclusion of baseball.

| Thanks for the helpful comments. Thought as per last year, and per the season schedule xls it would be on the following monday/tuesdays, but I now see it on the small ticker at the top.

| It is a miracle that we played this season. Having a guarantee three extra games with a possibility of winning a championship is a blessing. My hat goes off to the people that made this a reality.

| First off Bob S. is an alias but I'm sure you'll figure out what team I play for. Regardless of the who, I still have to air out a grievance with regards to the playoff schedule and how it was communicated to the players.
I find it a bit ridiculous that during the year we played an entire season on Tuesday nights. Logically it would make this, dare I say it, a Tuesday night league and as such playoffs would be held on those nights. In fact, after speaking to my team rep he confirmed that an email with an excel file said playoffs would be held Sept. 20/21 and Sept. 27/28. The "website" is updated. No email communication. Overhear a random conversation with one of the umps to figure out our playoffs will take place on every other day but Tuesday. As a father to young kids and a hectic work schedule I can't afford the luxury of playing on any given night of the week without the proper time to arrange 3-4 overlapping schedules.
Now I may be new to the league but when you've issued a schedule and are thinking about changing that schedule you should notify team reps as soon as you're in discussions with the city to issue new permits to continue your "long standing tradition" of playing over the weekend. Please explain to me:
How does this make sense?
How do you not use the Tuesday permits that have been used all year and fit the playoffs in those times?
Why play an entire season to then play a 2 game round robin to reseed for playoffs?
In all honesty, based on the previous posts, the league posting an update , on 12 point font, on a league website that is older than my mother is hands down a joke. Perhaps you also sent a fax along with it, which for you guys was be a brilliant move. I think the league has a duty to better keep those who pay good money well informed which you clearly failed to accomplish.
Although I've enjoyed my time in the league, this sort of thing makes me rethink, where I will play going forward. Thanks for a great regular season. Doubt I'll be there for the playoffs so goodluck to everyone. Cheers!

I would welcome the opportunity to discuss your grievance, person to person, in real life (zoom, phone, email), with actual names and real-life scenarios to go along with information and solutions to try and dispel your concerns.
Unfortunately, as a father myself, with a hectic work schedule, helping to run a league in the best interest of all members, as well as a team, sometimes not 100% of all can be satisfied. We do try our very best to make sure the field is level for all and that all teams can enjoy this league. We think that we've been able to create this environment for 400+ members on a yearly basis and are always open to feedback.
Obviously, there are challenges with trying to even complete a season during a pandemic, and I do appreciate your position. I do not, however, believe that hurling insults at the many volunteers who spend countless hours trying to run (in my opinion) a fantastic league will get you anywhere with a positive outcome.
If you would like to speak directly on this matter, do let me know and we can exchange contact information.
It is a shame that you feel this league is a joke and that you're unable to attend the weekend playoffs. Many in our league have often missed games or the playoffs due to other commitments.

- There are multiple games being played tonight and we do not have enough diamond time or warm weather to get a playoff done using only Tuesdays before the end of October. There are 8 teams on the open side A alone.

- its actually a 3 game round robin to then go into a double knockout (on the open side). What format and schedule would you put together that would allow for all teams to have an opportunity to compete for a championship?
Again, this league has always held its playoffs on a weekend.

| Rick, always appreciate your leadership and initiative in discussing things and providing clarification and understanding.
I don't know Bob, but in looking at his questions, I'm wondering if he means... Why play an entire season, with standings... to then do another round robin and reseed for playoffs?... thus in a sense, nullifying the final results and seedings of the regular season. I get that it gives an opportunity for ALL teams to have a chance at playoffs... but if slots for game times and permits are limited... then shouldn't playoffs just be for the top X or so teams that finished the regular season? (I think maybe that's what Bob was trying to ask)
I enjoy playing in this league, and things have run smoothly, and much appreciation to the league execs and volunteers! but I do see that communication on playoffs could have been better. I typically come to this site to check standings, and game results, and unfortunately I wouldn't check the home page. But the home page, small ticker at the top seemed to have been the only notice of playoffs, mentioned in the comments above, but I don't think a small ticker note, that rotates with several other messages, is the best, clearest way to get that important message across, and shouldn't have been the only notice. I also can't seem to find any other indication anywhere on the website when I looked around.
I think perhaps an email sent out earlier (especially to those that are new to this league) would have been very helpful and appreciated to address the confusion.
For the most part when I play week after week, most teams are cool, but just reading some of the comments above, in response to maybe some of the people that may be new to the league, it doesn't give off very... friendly vibes (to new ppl or not). Some people may be new, some not, but I don't see why there should be any responses to anyone that are passive aggressive or rude.
Let's strive to be a safe place for people to share thoughts, ask questions or comments, and for all of us to enjoy this game.

I absolutely hear the issue at hand, the way things were communicated was not clear, and the logic and rationale behind the decisions to proceed with the format as it stands could also be seen as curious.
Regarding these aforementioned issues, there could absolutely have been more communication, even though all team reps were made aware of the situation via email (i have records of this).
I totally agree regarding the passive-aggressive nature of some comments. I do not condone, nor encourage those, nor do we as a league. Unfortunately, one of the perils of having a forum like this is that people can make comments anonymously from behind a screen, and thus there is limited accountability. The only way we can really avoid this is to eliminate the forum altogether. New members should not be made to feel dumb for having questions, they are entitled to ask, and we are compelled to provide information as clearly and directly as possible.
As an NFP league, we only have limited resources to dedicate to anything that is not related to the on-field product, which we believe, is one of the best available in a recreational format.
All that said, we as an executive are always open to feedback, constructive criticism and new ways to improve the experience for ALL members (regardless of years as a member). Again, I do not condone or endorse any of the defamatory comments made and wish a safe space for all.

| I've always enjoyed playing uspl slo-pitch, it's lots of fun and you meet great people! The legends league is perfect for me now that my body has become more of a "legends league" shape and moves at "legends league" speed! There's no better way to spend a night in the summer than playing ball with people that are out to have some fun on the diamond and then spend some quality time after the game. I have played in many different leagues over the years. You will not find a more professional one than this one.

| don't know about STS using a spare during play-offs but I do know the Etobicoke team in Masters A, used a new pitcher/player for the 1st time during play-offs. I also know that every team we played had 10 players instead of the 14 players we had. still didn't matter .. best teams won !

| The penalty must fit the crime, I think I read that this team won two playoffs games with an illegal player on the field, which is definitely unfair to the teams they beat. My recommendation is a two-year suspension from the league for all those involved with this incredibly ignorant decision.

| only team STS beat was SM ... STS was also not in Masters A last year... Cobras, McCalmont, IA Private Wealth were obviously the only contenders this year which all had +.500 records, IA won provincials last year, Cobras 3 out of 4 years I believe .. McCalmont is a bunch of friends "thrown together" 2 years ago.. just sayin ' let it go' I know lots of great guys on STS and VG, and SM ... were really just a bunch of fat guys looking to have an excuse to drink a beer on a Monday night! ... if you take it more seriously than this .. you're the one that needs to leave !!

| Some of you may know me, I am the sponsor of the STS Group team and also player on that team. I refuse to hide behind an alias, as I do not need to hide to make comments. My name is Nick Bartzis.
On the subject of STS Group adding a player on Team roster, I have this to say to you. Regarding the games in question, the additional player was cleared by Chris Gonzalvez, the president of the league. This eas done in advance of both games. He not only made it abundantly clear that he approved this player to help us out as we were short, he watched the games personally. And made no comment to us otherwise therefore validating his acceptance and approval.
If you have any questions or comments about this, I invite you to reach out to me personally and I will elaborate on the facts. If the league so desires to kick us out for this, I have no problem with that however, seeing that the president approved this he should also step down and resign his position.
I am happy to discuss this by telephone or zoom, or in person.
Thank you to the more than 1000 people that read that message and feel it’s important not only to read it, but to take time out of their life to comment.
