After speaking to several players after this years draft I feel the board should take in to consideration the following moving forward. There shouldn’t be a formal draft but a committee of men who assign players to teams based on their skill level so teams would be fairly even. The purpose of a draft is to make teams as evenly matched as possible and I haven’t seen this since I’ve been here. Respectively, Frank

PS. I would like to hear others opinions and if this suggestion has ever happened in the JSSL.

This is a good suggestion and worthy of consideration next year.

These decisions are made by JSSA Board members. There is an election in February. All Board seats are on the ballot. I would suggest that anyone who feels they have ideas that will improve the league should run for the Board and get involved.

I agree all suggestions are worthy of consideration, but a committee of men assigning players to teams is essentially a draft. Four managers did their best to draft fair teams from a talented group. In the past, the Board has tried 1)formulating teams itself 2)assigning specific position players to teams 3)changing team compositions after the season startsand 4)utilizing the current draft system. All are imperfect, but the draft has proven to be the best solution in my opinion. Ironically, at least for the last 2 years, the team initially rated the lowest on paper following the draft has won our Winter League Championship.

A good suggestion. The draft has always been a complex issue. Should there be a group of men who make up teams and then hand them over to managers ? The ranking of players will continue to be a very very subjective matter. Everyone thinks there either better or worse than they really are. If you know me you know this to be true. That being said we as a board try our best to make the teams as "balanced" as possible. Another point I would like to make is that I believe that ANY given team can play well enough at times to win . At times being the key word . Confidence is a key roll in this . We must keep our comments to teammates positive. We were all taught this is little League. If you cant say anything positive to a team mate dont say anything.
I have spoken to much . But I am board waiting for or my flight back to paradise. See you all on the field .

Guys thanks for your responses. All I’ll say in conclusion is that we can to do better. For those who weren’t here in the summer and fall the draft was a disaster. One team was so much better then the others because of the draft. We can’t make teams that so obviously better. I spoke to one player recently who said when he saw his fall team after the draft he said “how are we going to lose a game”. I wouldn’t want to be on a team that was stacked. Also, getting up and going to the field knowing your likely to lose isnt fun. This isn’t sour grapes but reality. Up north after the draft we sat down an analyses of
the draft. We tried to see if the teams were evenly matched and if the teams records on paper would be around .500. Can anyone say that all these teams are .500 on paper? Yeah we’re all lucky at our age to be playing and having fun but we shouldn’t have stacked teams. Ie Summer and Fall 2020.
This is a long season and yes a team can get hot an win 2 games at the end. We have a board in place now that should make things right for the future. Okay, let’s play ball.
