Have been pondering some of the guys that seemed like they were fixtures of the League are no longer and while a bit sad, is just the way it goes.........

Joe Reedy....... Always good for a couple of cheapie buckets every game and a sky high basketball IQ. Just got too old.

Kurt Rataski.......... Always good for garbage time minutes and looking good on the court, but his skills were lacking to be generous. What he lacked in basketball smarts, he made up for in choice of girlfriend, who graced the gym around five years ago. My God. What a beauty. The Greek was smitten.

Doc Calabro............ One of the nicest guys of the League and certainly the oldest, Joe is still likely balling somewhere. Just not in this League. He LOVED basketball.

Jon Nichols............... He has bigger fish to fry these days. Five years back a top player, but never got a championship.

John Iovino............. John WAS the best player in the League till he destroyed his wrist playing around five years back. An absolutely grotesque injury. Never the same afterwards, now a knee and marriage have hobbled him. He has threatened to come back, but we shall see......

Jimmy Keane........... Decided to hang them up on his own. Absolutely dominant a few years back.

Steve Bland................. A very nice guy, but for his size (height) never had much of an impact on the League.

Dwayne Reevey.......... Tried to make a comeback after a LONG hiatus and a small issue like he broke his neck. Guess he realized that the League, while a good time, just not worth destroying his health.

RJ Carr........... I think RJ played because his dad loved the game/League so much, he kind of felt obligated. Now he's a dad with a life and good for him.

Anthony Demonte........... A solid big who played hard. I think that he just decided he couldn't risk getting hurt at this stage of the game.

Phil Costa............ Who can forget the Mailman?!?!?
An absolute basketball junkie who LOVED to play. He likely played in the League since it started. In the day, Phil was a VERY solid player with skills and effort.

Olie Freund........... An excellent player in the day, WHEN he showed up. That was always an issue, but a good guy. What ever happened to him?

Joe McGarvey............. THE ABSOLUTE LEAGUE LEGEND, he played his guts out for years and was terrific and a tough competitor. He just couldn't outplay father time.

There are more, but need to get back to work. Please remind me of others that I have missed and news on the guys that have moved on. Thanks.

What a cast of characters. Btw the league point averages are WAY down this year. Is the league missing the likes of Joe Reedy bombing threes over his head.... or Mcgarvey dropping 30 just when you think he's incapacitated. Or Rataski hitting a bucket and blowing a kiss to his girlfriend in the stands.
Or maybe we're missing the Greek strategize more during the week than he does selling steel..... only to give you 4 points and 2 rebounds in a sweat laden 20 minutes. OR maybe we're missing Rumph who had enough fire in his beer belly for 10 Russell Westbrooks. Who knows

Tampon, I wish to God I could spend more time churning out my stupid thoughts on the League. I just don’t know the guys enough to do so. Sad to say, but it’s part of living in Texas. I miss the guys and the games.

Alvin,
As the league’s foremost historian tell us what you remember about Menzer, Grier, Scarano, etc.

Who is on your FHML Mt Rushmore?

Saget I'm so happy you're doing well. Thought we lost you.

What about Stoner and Pete Richardson. Both never met a shot they didn't like. I think their arms just got tired so they stopped playing.

Saget, your question re who belongs the FH Men's League Mt. Rushmore of greatness, I will tell you in order............

McGarvey without question the George Washington of the group. He had a pile of championships and was THE dominant guy for many, many years. Only old age took him down.

In the second spot is the I-Man. I mean, the guy started in his early twenties and until he fouled up his wrist was tremendous and had a non stop motor. He only won two championships, but was in around 7 or 8.

In the third spot is Jimmy Keane............ with his size and obvious talent, he was for a few years, untouchable. However, he only played a few years, before he decided to hang up his sneakers.

The fourth guy?? No one jumps out for me. Would like to hear your thoughts and anyone else with an asshole and an opinion to weigh in on this important question.
