| Oilers (0-1-1) vs Jets (1-1)
Everybody shows for the Oilers, a rarity these days. My Stars team didn’t have a single game last season where everyone showed up. Once the boys get in game shape and we start rolling 3 lines the tides will turn. Rookie Huebert and sophomore LeBlanc led the Oilers with a goal and an assist each. Veinot is either now a set up guy or he is trying to get his teammates on a roll, either way he registered 2 apples. Turple and Gallant each scored 1 and single assists went to Donkey and LaPointe. That takes us to an update I thought would be weeks in the making, LaPointe 1 point, Ashley 0 points, might be an unsurmountable lead. Possibly my worst shoot out attempt ever, seems Logan has figured out my one move, not sure I have it in me to come up with another, but I better do it quick as Stu fucked up and Skinny/Eddie were not observant enough to notice. We sent out the week 3 shooters not the week 2 shooters. That means if either the Pack or Oil have a shoot out this week that the same guys will be rolled out. You may think it should mean the week 2 guys get to go but as my momma always said two wrongs don’t make a right. Week 2 shooters, take it out on your absent minded captains who can’t remember their own lists. Findlay makes his return a week late and makes up for it by producing the year’s first shut out, backstopping the Jets to a 1-0 victory. Ritz scores his second of the year 2 games in and Parsons nabs his second apple. These two were linemates back in the pre-covid 2019-20 season, they racked up exactly 100 points between them, they are on a 50 point pace combined now, have these two aged that much? States had the only other Jets point with an assist. Short bench for the Jets this week as Dukey sends out a pregame notice to the teams other 3 defencemen that the game is cancelled. With Dukey as the only D the Jets get their first shutout and are now considering 12 forwards and 1 D the rest of the way, Wolfpack are jealous that they didn’t think of it first.
Oilers 4 – Jets 2
Stars (1-0-1) vs Wolfpack (1-0-1)
Glenn Ingraham got suspended, just two weeks ago I predicted he would win the King Clancy award, you know the one, for exemplifying leadership qualities on and off the ice. What kind of leadership are you trying for Glenn? I don’t think being the leader of the ref complainers is trophy worthy, although you would have a large group to follow you. I am golfing with Glenn on Wednesday, could be awkward but I am also driving him there so if it is I will just leave him at Penn Hills to think about what he has done. Third rounder Timmy Ryan becomes the leagues leading scorer with his 1 goal 2 assist night. Corkill adds 1 and 1 and Longo nets 2 helpers. MacIsaac, Redden and Havey all score one, Havey then proceeds to get the 2 penalty kick in the ass and his team falls apart without their top sniper and play designer. Billard and Myrick each grab an assist to maintain their point a game production from the back end. Stars are looking for a goalie to replace Glenn this week, one would normally think they would go to 3 time Vezina winner Grease, but the Stars have faced grease twice already this season and scored 5 each time, tough call on that one. The Pack select just 3 D and Josh decides he can’t make it for 2 weeks. Bray drops back as he is the only member of the Pack forwards that can skate backwards. He produced a great game back there how can anyone not vote for this guy? I might move into his district just for that reason alone. Baxter led the Pack with 3 assists and 1 raping of the goalie. Ingraham had 2 goals and singles went to Bray and Phil LeBlanc. Young Ingraham also scored the shoot out winner and the Pack are now only 9 points off their total from last season.
Stars 5 – Wolfpack 4 depending on the Stars goalie pickup, if it is DC then Wolfpack 1
Flames (1-1) vs Lions (2-0)
Wel the Flames didn’t score any so that part of the writeup is easy. Now I can’t say what happened between the Flames and the Jets, but I can tell you the story from both dressing rooms couldn’t be a larger divide. Messervey was ruthlessly attacked and he actually has the scars to show it so it seemed pretty convincing from the Jets room. Off to the Flames room I go and Messervey is the devil who stole the firstborn of Flemming, Murphy and Burgess. Wow, so happy I don’t have to deal with this anymore. Mister L might let it all go or call all of you into his vice-principles office. I do know this, his main concern always has been and always will be the league first, individuals second so the entire bunch of you could be suspended if it continues or happens again. From my point of view I would say take a deep breath and decide if this anger is all worth it. Maybe the league could invest in some group therapy sessions, anyone out there know a good shrink? I do know this, guys shouldn’t be going home with bruises or cuts, keep your fucking sticks out of it or the mighty power of the HRHL vice presidency with come down hard on you, if you can smell what Mister L is cooking. The Lions just continue to roll along, no fanfare, no bullshit, just winning hockey. Munden picks his team to lose via text but realizes his mistake and flips it for the point, as a long time Star he forgot he was dissed by them for the newer younger Prodigy. Well, do that to Desi and he takes it out on you the only way he knows how, 2 goals and an assist. McNeil, Taiani and Tracey each had 1 and 1, Walshy and Glazebrook each had 2 apples and Oliver had 1. Glazebrook and Hartnett scored in the shoot out to complete the come from behind victory over the Stars. Just 2 weeks into the season and only Hype Train and Grease have yet to register a point for the Lions, depth scoring wins and when every forward contributes you are going to be a hard team to beat. Could the Lions be the first back to back champions since the 06/07 Panthers. Wattsy is hoping against that as it is one of the very few remaining connections he has to the league that he so proudly represented from it’s infancy until injuries forced an early retirement.
Lions 3 – Flames 1
Side Notes:
34 entries this year boys, $640 to the winner. No one was perfect this week, in fact more guys got zero points than got 2. Guess Longo is right that it takes a few week to have any idea about how we all match up.
Speaking of Longo being right, could Darnold be the real deal, looked pretty good against the 49ers?
Now that I don’t run a team, I can point out how annoying it is running a beer fund, especially for the guys who don’t pay in advance. Want to make it easy on your captains, bring $100 and tell them to let you know when you owe more. Makes life easier for the guy doing the one job no one has any interest in doing. If you don’t drink at all, bring $40, no you don’t drink from their cooler, but you surely will eat pizza or go to the team party that the beer fund pays for.
I get a feeling Murphy and Messervey don’t like each other. I really want to draft these two on the same team, both great guys off the ice who are also heated on it. I may have to have an intervention or maybe we will seat them together at the league Christmas party.
I have exactly zero to do with the suspension committee, gave it up last year and placed it in the extremely capable hands of Mister L, please stop coming to me asking for guys to be suspended, it is no better than going to your own wife to ask for it. I am not listening and not the guy to help you out. Almost lost a good bud over this a few years back, not going to happen again, I would let the league fold before I got involved.
I did talk to Rick on Sunday, the insistence that no one be on the ice when someone is shooting in a shoot out was the discussion, it will not be a big issue again, we as a league do not really care and he doesn’t either. Preferably guys would be on the bench, especially non shooters but it isn’t a huge deal going forward.
Tim Ryan, third rounder, 6 points in 2 games, all 5 other third rounders combined 1 point. I have always been on Tim’s side and figured he should be a third rounder, I was wrong all along, and he has had me fooled. Must be his charm and wit that distract me from his incredible hockey skills, no more though Tim.
Seems I use way too many commas but I don’t usually add them in, Word tells me I should so I go along. The machines are taking over.
I say from here on in teams can only draft 1 player per surname, having to distinguish between the Bents and the LeBlancs and the McNeils when they are on the same team is a pain in the ass.
I sent out a note to the executive group that Ingraham was suspended. The Pack lost their minds thinking it was their Ingraham. Nobody knew what he did, even he didn’t. From now on in league communication I will refer to them as old Ingraham and young Ingraham just to be more precise.
My Steelers are 2-0, once again they will not be good enough to win a playoff game but will be above 500 and likely grab a playoff spot.
I understand Parsons’ point of view on the Jays, I feel the frustration too but unlike Parson I can’t not watch, still love the team just would like a management change. Maybe all my years as an Islander fan have dulled me enough to ignore horrible management and just be a fan of the team.
Sadly I identify as someone who enjoys Taylor Swift’s music, kid has buckets of talent. I cannot understand why we need to see her after every play and anyone who actually believes that coach Reid is using a play she drew up is an idiot. These announcers are ex NFL players, surely they don’t believe that shit.
Air Canada pilot strike avoided, Pudge you can come back form your adventure and play hockey now.
Standings
2 – Croke, Hartnett, RealD, Corky, Oliver, Walshy, Ted, Skinny, Grayson, Desi 1 – Perry, Parsons, Sto, Timmy, McQueen, Taiwan, Flinner, Leon, Todd, Grease, Bongo, Priest, Anthony, Logan, Dukey, Bubba 0 – Graeme, Webs, Kerr, Murph, Matty, Lee, Glennie, Stoney

| Week. Three.
It’s been a pretty darn competitive slate this season in the ol’ HRHL, with four of six games thus far decided by one goal (and three of those contests decided via shootout). Last week EVERY. SINGLE. GAME. had a one-goal margin of victory. That is SLIM stuff. (And with the chips and beers that get consumed in this league, slim is not necessarily the norm…)
This week has the potential to continue the recent trend of competitive, edgy hockey that keeps local Fairview residents (Fairviews? Fairviewians? Fairviegians? Fairvegans?) wandering into the rink wondering what the hell is actually going on at the end of Vimy Ave.
Some creative math-ing also shows that winners have scored 24 goals across the first 6 skates, while losers have tallied 12. That’s an “average score” of 4-2, though no games have ACTUALLY finished that way at this point. We do have two 5-1 scorelines, though, making that the most popular final score so far this year. Other weird score sheet notes? Teams have scored 5 goals in game four times so far this year and won three of those matches, losing only once. On the flip side, teams have also scored only 1 goal in a game four times as well. Those squads have lost three times and won once. (Though if you count the Flames 2-1 OT win to kick off the season, and recognize regulation goals ONLY, teams have actually scored only one regulation goal in a game FIVE times, and actually gone 2 and 3.) Fun with numbers!
Speaking of fun with numbers, given it’s Week Three, let’s look at assorted “roster 3s” for HRHL squads this week.
On to the games…
Oilers (0-1-1 1 point 5GF/9GA -4 6th place) vs Jets (1-1-0 2 points 2GF/5GA -3 4th place)
In the opening skate of the night, the VeinBros are still winless and coming off a tough shootout defeat that earned them their first point of the season. The SuperSonics are fresh off an epic Findlay performance in their wacky (and somewhat feisty, at least at the final whistle) 1-0 win over the pesky Flames. That game saw Dukey’s fly-boys earn their first points of the young HRHL campaign as well.
Brent Cleveland wears the blaze orange #3 jersey for Skinner’s Winners this year and veteran sniper Mike Bent was the Oil’s 3rd rounder in the draft. As of now, those are the only meaningful “roster 3s” for the VeinBros unless you count the odd digit in Skinner’s #13 jersey or rookie tender Theurkauf’s #30 silks.
For the Croke-a-Dukes, HRHL all-time leading scorer and legend Ritcey wears the storied #3 Jets jersey and super-speedster Nathan States was their 3rd round pick this year. Other than that, there’s not much happening as far as numero trois goes for the Jets.
Here’s betting on Findlay doing his best impression of a brick wall again this week.
Jets 3 – Oilers 2
Stars (1-0-1 3 points 10GF/7GA +3 2nd place) Vs Wolfpack (1-0-1 3 points 6GF/6GA even 2nd place)
No one wear the #3 jersey for the Shiny Brights, but Stars co-GM Tim Ryan is not only their 3rd rounder this year, he also has 3 goals and 3 assists so far this season. Kevin Corkill also has 3 points for a formidable Stars squad at this point in the year. The team itself has 3 points in the league standings after last week, too.
The Wolfpack have three points as a group already this young season. For comparison’s sake, last year it was Week 7 before they hit that total. No one wears #3 for the Pack, but con-GM Josh McNeil was their 3rd rounder. Baxter has three points for the Steady Eddies so far, and all of Curl (#13), Logan (#30), and Zwicker (#33) are a triple threat of guys with 3s in their jersey digits.
It says here Les Etoiles’ shine in prime time and leave the Pack howling at the moon.
Stars 3 – Wolfpack 2
Flames (1-1-0 2 points 2GF/2GA even 4th place) vs Lions (2-0-0 4 points 11GF/6GA +5 1st place)
Grame Ross is the third rounder for a Flames team that doesn’t have anyone on the roster wearing the #3. Chappy (who will MAYBE make his season debut NEXT week, after missing the first THREE weeks of the season), will wear #13 for the Red Hots though when he hits the Stewtennial ice. Robinson also squeezes into a #30 jersey on the back-end for the Murphy-Kerrs.
First-goalie-drafted Grease is the Lions’ #3 pick from this year’s draft. Desi Munden sports the #3 jersey and has three goals so far this season for the Timmy HartCats. Sugar Shane Tracey has also lit the lamp three times so far this year for the Kitty Taianis. Speaking of which: the tremendous trio of Marty, Walshy, and Tony (McNeil) all have three points so far this season for the Lions. And all three of Walsh’s points are assists.
Playing a hunch that in the west-coaster, OUR THIRD GAME OF THE WEEK, the somewhat short-handed Flames go on a heater and toast(er) the HartCats in a tight one.
Flames 3 – Lions 2

| Weekly 3 stars……..
3. Ingraham , big G unit scores 2 in the thrilling pack win in shootout With bray manning the point this player stepped up and scored a pair in getting the pack a win. I just love how excited his son gets too when dad scores, the hatty was there but not accomplished leaving junior disappointed. Next time Grayson next time. By the way you’re suspended Friday night one game .
2. Findlay, posts a shutout against the flames last week in a spirited affair. A shutout in the HRHL???? That’s rarer than a unicorn with all these offensive wizards we have. This guy kept the jets in this one as the flames had several glorious chances to score. With the jets seeming to have issues scoring Findlay will be that more important to the jets success.
1. It’s pains me to do it but Munden , 2 goals and 1 assists in the lions (cheaters) win over the stars last week. The motherfucker even took my one fuckin slap shot with a new stick at that away when he back checked . Thank god he did cause I was blowing grease away with that . Anyway this player will be a huge leader in the lions quest to get the elusive repeat No I’m not drunk Desi back checked yes, I know

Stars 6 vs Wolfpack 3 - Pack drive the net with reckless abandon which results in 3 forwards getting tossed with two penalties each. Stars take advantage. Glenn chirps Ricky from the stands figuring if it was him in net not one penalty called
Flames 3 vs Lions 2 - Flemming (Not Parking Lot) scores a pair and Lions would be goal that clearly was in gets waved off to avoid the tie.

| Hey folks,
Another fun week of HRHL hockey.
I will start by saying that, yes, you should call me about any foolishness that happens in the league. Hopefully folks will get themselves together and I won't need to be called but I am here if needed. The idea that any of you would shit on Bob about anything makes me annoyed to no end. I have been in this league for 30 years and watched several leagues come and go in that time. The reason for our success is level headed decisions that are made with the league in mind. If you have been suspended before, and I have, you earned it. It may not be the length you think you deserve, or maybe you feel like they did it first. Maybe you barely did it, or only called someone a dick once and they need to do their job better etc. In the end I have never seen anyone suspended that was completely innocent. We have actually reduced suspensions at times if we felt they were unfair. Years ago, (history lesson), we watched all the garbage happening in other leagues and decided as a group (not just Bob) that we would come down hard on people for dumb shit and that would clean up our league. Many of the dummies have left because the league is "bullshit" and we are happy as fuck they did. The heavy hand has work for the most part. We do not want a league where people take it so seriously that they let tempers and such create a shitty atmosphere for refs, players, team "coaches" etc. We absolutely take the competition and winning seriously cause this is our NHL, but not to the extent that some take it. All decisions are made by talking to a number of people and then making the best decision we can.
Finally, if you truly think the league is dumb, and we don't know what we are doing, feel free to find another league....it won't be better than this one.
Jets win
Stars win
Lions win.

Stars/Pack…… longtime rivals collide here and nothing new as the stars crush the pack 6-2 . Haverstock , Corkill with a pair redden and Giles with the others
Flames / lions…….. not sure why but I’m playing a hunch that last weeks slashgate will bring the flames closer together. They form a union and come out tonight with a close 3-1 win over the first place lions . Slash Burgess snipes a pair and Dempsey buries a rebound to do the scoring

| This league isn't for everyone.
A few guys asked what team name have been in the league over the years.
Year one was the champion Barrett's Privateers, White lightning, the Sprytown Leafs, Woodcraft, The Blackflies, and the Kings.
Since then there has been
Wicker Emporium Suns, who became the original HRHL Jets, who became the FLames.
The Wolfpack has been in this league forever with only a few owners. Fisher and Wheels, Then Bob and anyone and now Eddie and some guy.
We had Tab Contracting, who actually became the Suns mentioned above.
There was the legendary Panthers franchise which became the modern day Oilers.
The BRuins became the Ice, who became the Vikings who became the Lions of today if I remember correctly.
The Flyers became the Jets you currently know and love if I am not mistaken.
I bet there is more but I gotta think about it
