| Flames (3-2) vs Wolfpack (2-1-2) Flames lead season series 1-0
The game sheet say Burgess scored one for the Flames assisted by Flemming. I could swear that Flemming scored it assisted by Burgess but what do I know. Either way they both get a point. Welcome back to Matt Cameron, he is replacing the injured the injured Jason priest for the remainder of the season. Also welcome back to Coombs and Powell who both were removed from the IR list just before gametime on Friday night. Good to see everyone back, sucks for Priest but hopeful that he can make a return next season. Flames team doctors have been busy. Ingraham lea the Pack in regulation with 2 goals and an assist. Bray led them in the shootout with 2 goals. Neither mattered as they suffered a loss that should have been a win as the understaffed Lions came back late from a 2 goal deficit. Baxter added to his team scoring lead with 2 apples, Bray had a regulation goal and single assists went to Phil and McNeil. Curl also added a shoot out goal. I am curious what takes place in the LeBlanc family after a first round like this. Phil has 3 points and Justin has yet to break his HRHL cherry. I know if this was my little brother, he wouldn’t hear the end of it. Holiday dinner coming up this weekend, my entire family would know how I was dominating that little bastard. Mind you I am quite possibly the worst older brother of all time so going by what I would do may be stretching it a bit. Don’t believe me about the worst older brother part, ask Young Web about the permanent bruises he has from when we were young and I tortured the poor guy. Tough call here, these teams went to a shootout in their first meeting after a 1-1 regulation draw. I expect a few more goals but still a tight affair.
Flames 3 – Wolfpack 2
Jets (2-3) vs Lions (3-2) Lions lead season series 1-0
Three wily old vets paced the Jets second win of the season. Messervey had a goal and 3 helpers, Parsons had 2 and 1 and Ritz had 1 and 2. Proctor scored his second of the season and Mousek had an apple to double his point total. Holt may not of put up any points but he did have the first 4 point night in the Prediction Pool as he correctly choose the Lions to win in a shootout. Who is this Ashley kid on the Jets who thinks he is going to outscore LaPointe on the Oilers. 2-0 now Teen Wolf, better get on your game soon or the race will be over. The Lions had a nice comeback and grabbed a shootout win. Mitchell, Taiani and Walshy all scored in regulation and lone helpers went to Glazebrook, MacDonald and McNeil. Sto sniped twice in the shootout with Glazebrook and MacDonald each adding one for the victory. I have been arguing for a few years that shootout goals should count in the point totals for the season. I may just start adding them in next year, I am not sure why a shootout goal that leads directly to a win and the extra point is not considered as important as an empty netter in a 9-2 blowout. Anyway I am going to keep track all season long of shootout goals and there will be a league award for the top guy. Does Desi return this week and where the Hell is Tracey, they combined for 4 points last time these teams met?
Jets 3 – Lions 2
Oilers (3-1-1) vs Stars (2-2-1) Stars lead season series 1-0
Veinot added to his lead league in scoring with a goal and 2 assists, that put him on a 70 point pace after the first round. The 2 closet guys to him are on a 50 point pace. Keep this up and it will be one of the most dominant seasons in HRHL history. Cleveland and Flemming each had 2 assists. Galland, Lapointe and Turple each scored 1, Lapointe’s was the first of his career yet no one on the Oilers got him the puck. Coates added an assist in the oilers beatdown of the previously first place Flames. MacIsaac scored 2 for the Stars and Havey added 1. Billard, Redden and Ryan each had an assist. Between them Longo and Ryan missed 6 great scoring chances, Haverstock might just stop passing the puck altogether if his linemates can’t get it together. I watched Ritcey and Ryan play together on Wednesday in their old man league and they are a sight to see, could the Stars propose a trade to get Ritz onto Ryan’s wing? When these teams met back in week one I thought the Stars were destined for a first place finish and a run to the championship, here we are 4 weeks later and they are not even in a playoff spot. I guess it isn’t hard to figure out why I have never won this pool, I don’t know shit about shit when it comes to which team is better. MacIsaac’s Blazers play at 7:30 in Sackville, will he make the 10pm game? Should be good for at least a period but a shootout delay would help the Oilers. Speaking of Jr. B hockey I see a kid named Veinot is tied for the league scoring lead, long lost relative Ryan?
Oilers 5 – Stars 1
Side notes:
First off, please check your own total every week, I do make adding mistakes once in a while and would hate to see someone miss out because of my errors. Note adding is hard sometimes. Is Croke some kind of sports savant? He has won both football survivor pools and he is alone in the lead here.
We are through the first of five rounds already and it couldn’t be much tighter with just 3 points separating the penthouse from the basement.
I love baseball playoffs, most bullpens look like the Jays pen did all year, only difference is most of these playoff teams can outhit bad relief.
Went to the Mooseheads game Sunday, they new owners seem to be trying hard to put on a good show for the fans. Did Bobby Smith care about anything other than making $$?
Grease entered his picks for this week in the Week 2 Prediction Pool chat, jesus, making it tough for a guy.
Genetics are an amazing thing, I watched Proctor’s kid score for the Halifax MacDonalds on Saturday night, I swear his old man scored the exact same goal on Wednesday.
Swayman signed with the Bruins last night, half a million per season more than the bruins offered weeks ago. Is it really worth the bitterness it creates between the player and the team?
Matt Murray is put on waivers, not sure he would even be the first guy called for an HRHL team when their keeper is missing, frail dude, couple of cups though.
Shootout Goal Leaders
2 – Sto, Glazebrook, Bray 1 – MacDonald, Hartnett, Burgess, Curl, Ingraham
Standings
8 – Croke 7 – KC18, TimH, Bubba 6 – Skinner, Desi, Graeme, Kerr, Real Deal, Taiwan 5 – Bongo, Murphy, Stoney, TimR, Anthony, Sto, MacQueen, Grease, Dukey 4 – Ted, Todd, JasonP, Oliver, Walshy, Grayson, Perry, Webs, Matty, Glennie, Parsons, Rudy 3 – Flinner, Leon, Logan 2 – Lee, Blair

| Week six.
It’s the start of the second round of games of the regular season and we are at that point in the year when the average HRHL fan has a pretty solid idea of what each squad might “be.”
Sure, things can ebb and flow from September to March, and attendance will play a big role in results, as it always does. Crazy about-faces have certainly happened in the past and will likely happen again, but in general anyone who has been paying attention to more than just beers and delicious chips from the friendly, blue-cornered confines of Centennial Arena will likely feel confident they have a solid understanding of what our six storied franchises are about this year.
What we know for sure is that after five weeks of games, the league is really, really, really TIGHT. The 1st place Oilers are only 3 points clear of the 6th place Jets, and a mere 2 points ahead of the suddenly 5th place Stars. And then there are the Lions, Flames, and Wolfpack, who are all tied for 2nd place, 1 point behind the pace-setting VeinBros, but only a point ahead of the Shiny Brights and 2 in front of the surging Jets.
Given it’s HRHL Week Six, let’s look at how each team’s sixth rounder is performing thus far. There are some BIG NAMES that were chosen in that round this year.
On, as they say, to the games…
Flames (3-2-0 6 points 16GF/11GA +5 2nd place tie) vs Wolfpack (2-1-2 6 points 14GF/16GA -2 2nd place tie)
Our first HRHL sixth rounder is actually a member of team management assigned to said spot. Pack co-GM Steady Eddie Hill was designated as Les Vertes Formidable’s 6th pick in this year’s draft. He’s a good-natured beast on the back-end for the Mean Green, and has 1 goal while having patrolled the blueline in all five Pack games so far this year. His 2 PIMs are evidence of his grit, too.
The Flames’ sixth rounder this year is another under-the-radar blueline gem in Mark Coombs. Given a gruesome, work-related hand injury suffered in late summer that called his Stewtennial HSHL season to a premature halt, Coombs only made his HRHL winter league debut last week. While he says he’s still getting back up to game speed, his one game teaser last Friday night showed why he’s regarding as one of the top D in the league.
Flames 3 – Wolfpack 2
Jets (2-3-0 4 points 10GF/16GA -6 6th place) vs Lions (3-2-0 6 points 20GF/27GA -7 2nd place tie)
Speaking of beasts, the Jets sixth choice in this year’s draft is Findlay, a perennial Vezina candidate with maybe the sweetest looking tendy set-up in the whole league. While his Edmonton-themed Vaughn’s might’ve matched another teams silks a bit better, I can’t imagine Croke or Duke care all that much. Any time he’s not racing and suits up for the Super-Sonics, he gives them a chance to win. With a 2-1-0 record in 3 games, with one shutout and a 2.33 GAA, he is in the Vezina conversation again this year.
After two years straight in Oiler orange, it’s a bit strange to see Sto Bachynski cruising around the Centennial Arena ice in HartCat black, but he’s continuing the trend here of defensive studs taken in the sixth round. With a goal and an assist for two points in four games, Sto the Pro is once again showing why some in HRHL circles consider him a modern-day Bobby Orr (the bruins guy, not the former Moosehead kid).
Lions 3 – Jets 2
Oilers (3-1-1 7 points 23GF/15GA +8 1st place) vs Stars (2-2-1 5 points 20GF/18GA +2 5th place)
FINALLY: a forward! Skinner’s Winners went back to the proverbial well, grabbing a familiar face with their sixth pick in this year’s draft. One of approximately 1347 Leblancs currently skating in the HRHL, Marc Leblanc is, in fact, NOT actually related to Phil or rookie Justin, despite whatever theories get floated in the comfy blue confines of the Centennial. With a goal and two assists so far this year, he is rewarding Oiler management’s loyOILty thus far.
Last, but certainly not least, is another rookie: Stars fit-as-a-fiddle-phenom Scott Billard. The Stars pre-scouting work was impressive, as they somehow managed to grab the marathon man in the sixth round with ease. This smooth-skater rookie blue has dazzled from his first exhibition game shift onward. With three assists in four games, Billard is also showing there’s a bit of offence in his game, in addition to the relentless, skate-you-to-death brand of D he plays.
Stars 3 – Oilers 2

| NOTES: 1. So, Prediction Guy clearly writes his simile’s over the weekend and refreshes the HRHL website until Bob “2 B’s” Webber uploads his post!!!
2. Seen a soccer highlight the other day, a guy won the ball with a great tackle, he then preceeded to dribble by 5-6 guys and than made an incredible pass to a guy for a tap in. The goal scorer than goes nuts to the crowd pounding his chest and shit and he did fuck all, poked the fucking ball into a gaping fucking net. Why not, go over and thank the fucking guy that created that goal. I’m telling ya, I Would have knocked that motherfucker out.
3. Why are so many guys on the New York Rangers to go to the finals? They are soft as fuck. Be like picking the HRHL Oilers to win the HRHL Playoffs. Not happening. Soft as fuck.
4. Jimmy Croke wins 2 Survivor Pools. Unbelievable. Everyone that hasn’t straightened up with him or I yet. Please do so this Friday. Or simply email Jimmy the money as mentioned previously jamescroke44@hotmail.com.
5. By not watching Baseball all year, I have clearly missed quite a bit. A lot of guys I never even heard of playing in these playoffs. I also find it hilarious how some guys are playing in the playoffs no matter where they are. i.e. Yuli Gurriel, Tommy Pham, etc. Anyhow, that’s enough on baseball, I am really going to make myself angry if I continue to talk about it.
6. Messervey was on fire Friday night!!! Look for that to continue throughout the season.
7. Missed 1 pick on 3 different prolines this past Sunday. I think I’m on the way back. I missed on one the previous Sunday. Only good things coming this Sunday.
8. There had been an awful lot of Stars chatter in social media outlets over the past several weeks!!! I’m here on behalf of the Jets to say “You’re welcome”!!!
9. Actually, never mind about what I said about baseball. How the fuck do those 2 fucking ass hats still have jobs with the Blue Jays??? They have completely destroyed the big club while at the same time, completely devastating the farm!!! It’s a complete slap in the face to Blue Jays fans everywhere that these 2 dummies are still employed. Can’t believe, after I basically predicted this absolute failure by these 2, that they still have jobs. Toronto man, what a joke sports town. Don’t give a fuck about their fans. Have no idea or desire to win. Whatever man….
10. Ballsy leads the Wolfpack in points, for anyone who’s interested. I just thought I would throw that out there.

| Weekly 3 stars……..
3. Sto the pro, chips in an assist and was solid defensively in getting his team a regulation point. Also added some dynamite in the SO with 2 beauties . This guy came out of the federal league and has been giving the lions a boost every night.
2. Flemming, the original one , parking lot was a force all game and chipped in with two assists by firing his heavy shot on the net. The Oilers have the games scoring leader but he’ll need some help and flemming got the job done last week for the red hot oilers .
1. Parsons, booooooooo 2 goals and I assist in the jets big win over the floundering stars. This player seems to be having a career resurgence playing with Ritcey and messervey . Finally awesomeness has some guys who can keep up to his speed. He also was a force in the face off dot by winning 71% of his draws. To quote Staind, “ it’s been awhile” but he’s back as the top player in the land at least for this week.
Each winner gets an autographed Ross atkins head shot for the honor of weekly star

| Notes Continued:
11. The Canucks are so soft, that the Toronto Maple Leafs are Jealous!!!
12. If Sam Bennett doesn’t make Team Canada man, I will be mildly upset. The Consistent great hockey this guy has played over the past year has been outrageous. And the teams that will be iced by those other nations are gonna want no part of Sam Bennett. Reward Sam!! Reward Sam!! Reward Sam!!!
13. How bout them Oilers??? Looks like they could use some of the HRHL Oilers on their roster.
14. Kris Letang needs to call it quits. Every time I watch this guy, I’m like “why is he still playing?”
15. I wonder if Connor Mcdavid was screaming “Right Fucking Now” after last nights game??? I must say, I really enjoy watching them lose. And, I never watched the game, cause I was to busy watching the softest team in the league blow a 3 goal lead, but watching highlights of tat Oilers game, just puts the greatest smile on my face.
16. Speaking of that Prime show “Face-Off”. I really don’t know if I’m gonna be able to get through it. I watched the first show and Paul Bissonnette and Jackie Redmond nearly ruined it for me. Had Bissonnette talking up the city of Toronto so much, its ridiculous. I know they have a passionate fan base, but don’t sell it as more passionate than other fan bases. A lot of fair weather fans on Toronto side. And don’t get me started on the Corporate atmosphere watching their home games. But Jackie Redmond really fucking pissed me off. Shes their telling us how pasta and Willie are no longer friends all that matters now is winning. Fuck Off!!! Tell me that shit when you talk about Matthew Tkachuck or Sam Bennett, or Sid, or Nate. Don’t feed tme that bullshit when I know the fucking difference. Not one player on that leafs team cares about winning. That’s why they lose in the first rd of the playoffs each year.

| Pack/Flames………should be a hard hitting tight checking affair but I’m going with flames too eke out a 3-2 win over the pack. Young buck Chappy with a pair and Coombs bulge the twine. Matt stewtennial stops 18 in the win .
Jets /lions…… lots of injury rumours floating around so I’ll go the Jets and idiot savant Croke to squeak out a 4-3 win in this one . Ritz , holt, Macqueen and parsons score the goals here
Stars/Oilers……. Special guest goalie makes 25 saves in the Stars 5-3 win over the oilers . Red hot Giles , Corkill, Havey, Perry and Ryan score the goals in this one . Stars have been flickering last couple it’s time to shine bright again
