| An important note before we begin:
We had an incident this week where it was brought to my attention by a few different sources that a derogatory term may or may not have been used in the heat of the battle. Boys it is 2024 and we should all know by now that this type of behavior cannot be accepted in hockey. Let’s start today with a clean slate and understand going forward what the penalty for this offence is. A gross misconduct (3 game minimum) will be assessed to any player on or off the ice (this means in the stands while watching or written here) who engages in taunts, insults or intimidation based on a discriminatory grounds. Discriminatory grounds include the following:
Race, national or ethnic origin, skin colour, language spoken Religion, faith or beliefs Age Sexual orientation Gender Martial or familial status Genetic characteristics Disability
I know I am not innocent of all of these behaviors in the past and I know of several others who would also be guilty. Often, we can feel it wasn’t meant as derogatory but the recipient of these behaviors can/does feel it is so time to end them all together. Any of you who have been involved in children’s sports would already know the harsh penalties that exist for this behavior and to be honest it isn’t something I want to deal with for grown men. The HRHL President and VP have held a meeting and agreed that we will all start today with a clean slate in hopes that just this quick word will prevent any future issues. We are staring with a clean slate because I am at fault for not having addressed this long ago so the league I run may have felt it is still OK behavior. It is not! We also want any player who feels discriminated against to know you are encouraged to approach either myself or Longo and let us know so it can be dealt with, this will be done with as much Confidentiality as possible. My hope is we are all big enough to understand this is the way things are today and it is all aimed at making the game we love a game that everyone can love that same way without the fear of being made to feel less than any of us.
I tend to try to deal with issues like this with a bit of humour but understand that this is a serious issue with both league executives and the referees.
As the oldest bastard in this league I do give you permission to continue to make fun of my age (Fougie) while I continue to shut most of you young fuckers down despite my advanced years.
As always, if you have any questions or thoughts feel free to approach me anytime for an HRHL conversation, well except before noon on weekends as I am still sleeping. No kids does have some nice benefits.
Lions (3-2-1) vs Stars (2-3-1) Lions lead season series 1-0
The Lions went down in the shootout this week but missing your top 2 draft picks and still picking up a point is pretty impressive. Bent and Tracy did the scoring for the Lions, Sto and McNeil had an apple each. I hope Red enjoyed the football game in Dallas last night. Imagine getting to one NFL game a year and the one you go to sees the home team get trounced 47-9. Walshy is off to Columbia this week and Munden is either still on IR or playing hurt. Tough run for the Lions but with strong team management they have managed to stay in the thick of the race. They have allowed 7 goals more than the second worst defensive team so they do have areas where they are working on improvement. Rod Langway is offering tips for D Men for just $29.99, might be a wise investment boys. I have it on Beta and if you have a machine you can borrow it. Good news this week, Stars only scored one last week, bad news this week, Stars only scored one last week. Haverstock scored that one for the Stars, unassisted. The Stars have fallen to the bottom of the standings which comes as a shock to me. I was watching them roll onto the ice last week and thinking how is this team so stacked? Then I realized, JB isn’t playing and he is the engine that makes the entire team run. A DPM (Doctor of Podiatric Medicine) is all this team needs to get back on the right foot, ha, didn’t mean to do that. JB gets healthy this is a championship contender, without him, well the end of the year party is still fun.
Stars 4 – Lions 3
Wolfpack (3-1-2) vs (Oilers (4-1-1) Wolfpack lead season series 1-0
4 more points and the Wolfpack tie their output for last season. That is KC Royals type improvement right there. Fougere tallied a goal and 2 assists to lead the Pack. The goal was one of the best deflections seen in the HRHL this season and is right up there on my list for goal of the year so far. Pecarski sniped twice, MLA to be Bray had 1 and 1. Young LeBlanc outdid his big brother with 2 apples while Phil had just the one goal. Good weekend for Justin at the Thanksgiving fest telling the story of how he as a D was still able to outscore Phil a forward. Good Times. Eddie scored one, the family was mostly in the stands but the oldest daughter and her boyfriend were late arriving and missed the show. Eddie actually called it before the game that he was scoring, impressive that he can do that but he did also warn guys that if they didn’t feed him ice time could be limited in the future. Baxter and Ingraham rounded out the Pack scoring with single assists. Veinot once again led the Oilers attack, 2 goals and an assist to not only allow the Oilers to maintain their first place standing but also to boost his league leading points total to a 6 point edge over the nearest competitor. Bent, Flemming and the forgotten LeBlanc brother each scored 1 and assists went to Cleveland, Huebert and Turps. The Oilers are not just alone in first but they have the most goals for and the fewest against in the league. Always hurts my heart just a bit to play against the Pack but here we go again.
Oilers 6 – Wolfpack 2
Jets (3-3) vs Flames (3-3) Jets lead season series 1-0
The Jets won a nail biter in the shootout after Statesy tied it up late. Proctor scored the other Jets regulation goal, his third in his last three games. Seems odd to see a Dman with 3 goals and no helpers. Ritcey, Parsons and MacQueen each had an assist and MacQueen added the shoot out winner. Findlay was impressive in the shoot out as well stopping every shot he faced. Jets room can now take a deep breath and relax, just as Aaron Rogers would suggest now that they have a couple of wins under their belt and are right back in the race. The Flames missed Burgess and boy did they miss Burgess. That doesn’t bode well as his Halifax West Warriors play at 8:15 this week at the GEC 4 pad. Will he make it to his West Coast game? Seems unlikely. Ross picked up what slack he could with a goal and an assist, Kerr and Cameron each scored 1. Coombs, Currie and Flemming all grabbed an apple. Does Tim Kerr age? Guy still scores with ease, almost had a second one this week. Maybe his game isn’t the full “200 foot game” it once was but offensively he still has it. I am starting to think it was him Hot Tub Time Machine and he too the machine with him.
Flames 3 – Jets 1
Side Notes:
Wow, so many rules of what we can and can’t say with this new submission. As a fat fucker my entire life I am a bit surprised that we can still make fun of fat fuckers. Also as a fat fucker my entire life it doesn’t hurt my feelings being call fat, I see it in the mirror every day. No one could shit on me for being fat more than I do.
Does the genetic characteristic part mean we have to stop talking about grease eating peanut with his…well you all know?
And we can’t make fun of Poirier because he is French? Good thing for us we can still make fun of someone for being an ass. Just kidding Paulie, love ya bud.
We can definitely make fun of his golfing ability though, right?
Religion, faith or beliefs, that one might be tough for me, is it OK to make fun of guys who believe this hockey is important enough that they should be yelling at refs every game?
Acceptable things to call me when you disagree with what I have written here: ass, asshole, fucking asshole, fat, fat fucker, maybe mother fucker is OK, I think son of a bitch but some guys love their moms and it could be bad.
Do the Edmonton Oilers not know the regular season start date?
I had first pick in our pool, McDavid is not helping yet, still wouldn’t trade him though.
Deshawn Watson is horrible, if he doesn’t right the ship, he won’t be able to get a handy anywhere.
Aidan Hutchinson broke his tibia, ouch, tough fucker though, hardly looked hurt, just pulled off his gloves like it was the end of the play.
Sid needs 1 point for 1600, he is 10th all time in NHL scoring but if you added him and Peter Stastny together you would still come up short of Gretzky. Think that is impressive, Ritcey is better than The Prodigy and Skinner combined, even add Josh McNeil and Ritz still has the advantage.
Wife and I used to go to the movies every Saturday without fail, movies are shit these days, can’t remember last time there was a must see flick.
Tua is expected back this season, that man is going to be in a home with dementia by the time he is 40.
Jays need Teoscar back, or someone just like him.
Of the four remaining teams in the World Series hunt I really don’t like Cleveland, not sure why, I juts watch the games and hope they lose.
I love that Hollywood stars and singers endorse election candidates, does anyone really choose the most powerful job on the planet by siding with Taylor Swift or Kid Rock, Hulk Hogan or Bryan Cranston. These people are so self important it drives me.
Please vote for Gerard Bray, Webby endorsed. LOL. But I would vote for him, you get 2 extra assists by sending a picture of you ballot. 5 if you vote multiple times.
We are having a hobo invasion at the Centennial arena on Friday nights, the word got out there are fee chips and here they come. I had to fight off one guy this week, don’t mess with the fat kid when there are chips involved.
I picked all three teams this week that lost 5 weeks ago when the schedule was the same, seems wrong but I am not very good at this pool so what do I know.

| Notes:
1. The Calgary Flames are rolling. Not bad for a team with no first line. We do have 3 second lines though. Also, our leading goal scorer from a year ago hasn’t played yet either.
2. LMAO. Bob, did you actually have to fight off some random dude from taking the chips. I laughed some hard when I read that.
3. In the past, when I’ve called someone an orange, the common response back to me was being called a fat fuck. So, if I am losing some of my ammo, they are certainly losing there’s. Add fat fuck or anything related to being fat, to the list.
4. I missed 2 more prolines by 1 game again on Sunday. I’m getting close. I can feel it.
5. I have been thinking back on my hockey career. Some of my fondest memories are exchanges that went like this. You fucking Apple”, than the other guy would say “No. You’re a fucking apple”!!! Ah, those were. Fantastic Stuff. I will miss those exchanges. I must say I enjoyed being called an Apple much more than a Fat Fuck. So, Again make sure it finds its way on the list.
6. MacQueen’s shootout goal was a beauty. I’d like to see that banana Matthews do better than that.
7. Imagine this one. Imagine joining an over 40 hockey league and being called a “watermelon” in your first month. And than making an issue out of it. I mean you clearly have never played recreational hockey in Canada before. If you had, you lasted 3 months. Maybe hockey isn’t the sport for you. Probably stay away from Softball, Basketball, Soccer, etc as well. I have played them all and language is all the same. Sports man. (Maybe I never played Soccer though, I was stretching there.)
8. The Edmonton Oilers look like a hot mess again. Loves It. Their D are worse this year than they were last year.
9. This guy must be some special. He’s created more change in this league in 1 month than I have been able to accomplish in 15 years.
10. What about “Pylon”? Are you allowed to use that? That’s another one of my go to’s!!!
11. Last thing on this. I really hope the refs had nothing to do with this. Cause as I have said in the past and I will say it again. In all the leagues I have played in, the refs have nowhere near the power they appear to have in this one.

| It’s HRHL Week Seven.
For whom will it prove lucky? On, as they say, to the games…
Lions (3-2-1 for 7 points 22GF/30GA -8 THIRD PLACE) vs Stars (2-3-1 for 5 points 21GF/23GA -2 SIXTH PLACE)
The Meowy-Taianis lead this season series 1-0.
The Hart-Cats and the Shiny-Brights have both looked both incredible and like regular passengers on the struggle bus at times so far this season. Both club’s have more than enough talent on their rosters to make a serious run at the league this year, but it may well come down to injuries, at least in the short term.
Playing a hunch here that Les Etoiles de T & T heal up just a bit quicker and twinkle their toes to a victory this Friday night.
Stars 4 – Lions 3
Wolfpack (3-1-2 for 8 points 20GF/19GA +1 SECOND PLACE) vs Oilers (4-1-1 for 9 points 28GF/16GA +12 FIRST PLACE)
The Steady Eddies lead this season series 1-0.
It’s first versus second in the prime-time sandwich spectacular this week. Skinner’s Winners have been on a tear lately, having won four straight after a couple losses (one in OT) to start the season. Les Vertes Formidables are coming in hot and off a win last week but have also consistently gone win-loss-win-loss so far this season.
This Battle of Vimy Ave should be a real treat for the fervent fans of Fairview, but it says here that the Orange have just enough juice to send McNeil & Co. packing.
Oilers 4 – Wolfpack 3
Jets (3-3 for 6 points 13GF/18GA -5 TIED for FOURTH PLACE) vs Flames (3-3 for 6 points 19GF/17GA +2 TIED for FOURTH PLACE)
The Croke-a-Dukes lead this season series 1-0.
The west-coaster this week sees a soaring Jets club that’s gone super-sonic lately (with two wins on the trot) taking on a Flames squad that has suddenly cooled off, having dropped two in a row. Will the boys in white put up their Dukies for a fight or Croke at the first sign of pressure? Will the Red Hots rise from the ashes or continue to suffer from burn out?
Look for the guys in red to turn a Kerr-ner and catch fire in this one.
Flames 4 – Jets 3

| Just an update on the suspensions for the derogatory comments stuff above. We will start with a one game suspension for first time offenders and 3 games for secondary. Really hoping we don't ever need to use this one though.

| Notes Continued: 12. This one is for the refs out there that I know read these posts. Had an argument last week with one of the guys telling me that if the defending team clears the zone it has to be brought back in intentionally by the defending team for it not to be called offside if the other team touches the puck. This I immediately knew was incorrect, it does not need to be brought back in intentionally, accidentally is fine as well. I don’t know how many times now I have corrected this one referee for incorrect calls, but its certainly double digits now. And every time he tells me I don’t know the rules. LMFAO. Bud, I have forgotten more Hockey Rules than you know. See # 2 below:
Exceptions
Under both NHL and IIHF (Rules 83.1 and 83.2) rules, there are two conditions under which an offside can be waved off even with players in the attacking zone ahead of the puck.
1. A defending player has legally carried the puck out of their own zone, and then passes the puck back into their own zone only for the puck to be intercepted by an attacking player.
2. A defending player clears the puck out of their own zone, but the puck then bounces off another defending player in neutral ice back into their own zone.
If You still don’t believe me. Follow this link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Offside_(ice_hockey)
13. Calgary Flames are still undefeated. I am starting to get a little excited. Even Jonathan Huberdeau is not playing like an Apple so far this year!!!
14. It is very hard to watch these baseball playoffs, when you absolutely hate all 4 teams. Is it just me, or is Guardians way worse than Commanders. For some reason I hate that team name way more.
15. A big night for Crosby and Malkin last night. Its very nice to see.
16. Like why will the Avs not to go to the backup. After Georgiev was pulled in consecutive games, I decided to pick up Annunnen in my fantasy league cause they have to go the backup for a game, Right? No, you dummy, you are wrong. We will start Georgiev for the 3rd time and yes after we lose that one badly, we will start him again in the 4th game. You are a complete Boron for picking up the Colorado backup goalie. And to make things worse, you got to keep him now, cause you know he is going to get a start here at some point. At least I think so??? ??
17. Finally, Again to the refs. Next time #16 on the Jets tells you that you are wrong, listen to him ffs. He is trying to educate you, so that you can do your job better. I have tried about a dozen times now with this one guy, and he continues to ignore me. All Along thinking he is right. When he is dead wrong.
