| Flames (4-7) vs Jets (6-5) Jets lead season series 2-0
This is just a recap of this week except in exceptional circumstances where I will point out what happened in my absence last week. This week Coombs scored the only goal for the Flames and Chappy assisted. Exceptional circumstance number 1, last week Burgess had 3 goals and 4 apples for 7 points, Chappy had 3 goals and an assist. That is about as big a variation as you will see in a two week period. The Flames are the only team not within one win of first place. It looks as if the issue may not be talent but attendance, fix that and the Flames will move right back into the thick of the race. This week I am looking back at last season to see how teams compared as we approach the mid-point of the season. The 2023 Flames were sitting at 8-3 with 16 points, comfortably in second place. This season they haven’t had the start they wished for and have half the points they did last season and sit in the basement. Well I can honestly say I don’t remember ever writing the following sentence. Croke led the Jets this week with 3 apples. MacQueen scored 2, Messervey had 1 and 1. Single goals went to Orser and Parsons and single assists to Morry, Mousek and Ritcey. The Jets are 1 game worse than last season at this point as they sat at 7-4. Sitting in third at this point last season and they didn’t make the playoffs, now with 2 points less they sit tied for the final playoff spot. While that may seem foreboding, they also sit just 2 points out of first place, she is a lot tighter this year boys. Burgess missed the last meeting of these teams and the Jets dominated, no Warriors high school game scheduled this week so I will assume Burgess will be in the lineup.
Flames 5 – Jets 3
Wolfpack (6-3-2) vs Oilers (6-4-1) Wolfpack lead season series 2-0
The Wolfpack scored 9 goals this week but must have had a shooting percentage in the aughts. Matty faced more rubber in this one game than any goalie has faced in three combined this season. Ingraham had 4 goals, 2 he was credited for and 2 that Eddie woke me up at 7:12 am on Saturday morning for, thanks for ruining my beauty rest, now my week is fucked. Just to be clear, Grayson didn’t ask for the goals and I did ask captains to check game sheets this year and let me know of issues so this may be my fault although I am pretty sure it is a well known fact that I am not awake in the single digit numbers on weekends. Eddie I can give them just as many goals at noon as I can at 7:12 am, why are you even up this early or were you still up and just leaving the rink? Grayson also had an assist for an impressive 5 point night. Baxter had 3 helpers, Eddie scored 2 and had 26 shots trying for the hatty to no avail. Fougere and Phil each had 1 and 1. Bray, Curl, Justin and Pecarski al had 2 assists and McNeil scored one. Why am I looking back 1 year ago, well the Pack is why. This week they surpassed the total points they had all last season. After 12 games they had a 1-9-1 record and with 3 points were all but eliminated from the playoff race, this year they are 6-3-1 and at the top of the league standings, what a difference a year makes. The Oilers offence sputtered on Friday and Gallant scored their only goal with an assist going to Bent. This is only the second time this year that Turple has been shut down and both times it was the Stars who pulled off the feat, are they his Kryptonite? The Oilers are tied in second with a 6-4-1 record, 2 points better than their 5-5-1 record from a year ago but 2 spots higher in the standings. We all remember the final night of last season when the Oil missed the dance by just 1 point so no one understands more than Oiler management how important these early season wins are. This us the third meeting of the season for these teams and all three times it has been a game for first place, the Pack have prevailed twice, can they continue the dominance?
Oilers 5 – Wolfpack 3
Lions (5-4-2) vs Stars (6-4-1) Lions lead season series 2-0
Walshy and McNeil each scored one for the Lions and assists went to Munden and Taiani. Tough to win when you are missing you star goalie and 2 of your 3 centermen. Glazebrook’s absence leaves a particularly big hole in the lineup. The Lions sit in 5th spot but only 2 points out of first at 5-4-2, last season in Hartnett’s wet dream season the Lions were atop the standings with 17 points at 8-2-1. That would have them 3 clear of the field this year, last year they were just 1 clear of the Flames. The Lions rode that wave all the way to the Championship, it is a different road this year but Taiani is sure the same results are coming. I know this because I listen to his podcast, the Lions Roar. Kind of a lame name but Lions management likes it and the sponsors love it. I don’t want to steal Timmy’s thunder but Corky has to be the week’s first star, not only did he have a goal and 4 assists but he also moved into first place in the Prediction pool with a perfect week and 5 points in the last 2 weeks. MacIsaac had 1 and 2, not bad for a guy who wasn’t supposed to even be at the game. Stars management were playing mind games with the Oilers and they worked, worried they wouldn’t have a goalie or even be able to ice enough guys to play. Turns out is was all a ruse to get the Oilers to let their guard down, well played men. After being a top scorer in the league 2 years ago when he last went to Nashville then falling off the face of the earth for 7 games after his return, Longo was insistent that it wouldn’t happen this time. Well kids it didn’t, Longo had his first 2 goals of the season and now the flood gates will be open. Timmy had 1 and 1, Billard scored once and single assists went to Giles and Poirier. Exceptional circumstance number 2, Perry had a goal and 3 assists last week which gives him 7 points in 2 games, not bad for a guy who should have been coaching in Sackville. The Stars are also tied in second place just a point out of first with a 6-4-1 record, 5 points better than this point last season when they sat at 4-6-1.
Stars 4 – Lions 3
Notes:
Nashville is fun but I think I have hit my limit for country music for a few years, golf in North Carolina next year.
Think our shoot out that went 20 guys two weeks ago was bad, The Macs vs Vito’s went 24 shooters with just the one Macs goal. Tense stuff.
McDavid reached 1000 points, how about some love for Bossy who did it quicker. We all know Gretzky and Lemieux are two of the best all time but Bossy needs more recognition for how good he really was. If he had a back that wasn’t messed up he would be a top 10 guy all time.
I may be Islander biased.
I went to vote early this week and the computers were down, they sent us home. How did we vote before computers?
I went into the thick of redneck country the day after the US election and heard less about it down there than I do here. Why do we care more about US politics than the US does.
Argos won the Grey Cup, I really don’t like Canadian football, or soccer or Curling.
Reaves rocked Darnell Nurse, 20 years ago he would have been a hero now he is a villain. Keep your head up is still a good idea.
Jon Jones looked fat but still dominant, Tyson looked 58. NHL salary cap could go to 97 Million next season, Leafs might be able to sign Marner to a max contract and some third string goalie to a 4 year 40 million dollar deal.
Ovi keeps on scoring, surely he will slow down soon. Mooseheads are struggling but attendance is through the roof.
California is removing the word Squaw from place and street names, how was this still around, especially in California?
Watched a new show, just 1 season so far called Bookie, give it a look, I enjoyed it. I also like that the episodes are only a half hour.
Also watching Intelligence, starring Ross Geller and Nate from Ted Lasso, like it so far but not completely sold yet.
Vote for Bray this week or next, he will fight for better ice time for men’s leagues.

| Weekly 3 Stars……..
3. Croke, 3 assists tripling his season totals and was a force in this game setting plays up . This veteran was holding the blue line and dishing all game . We may have to move this guy up in the draft order if he keeps this up.
2. Ingraham, 2 goals 2 assists or 4 goals 1 assist depending on who you ask . The big unit was a force and would’ve been first star if they weren’t playing a decimated flames. This guy can play first line minutes or anchor a second line . He’s finding chemistry with his linemates and leading the surprising pack to first place.
1. Corkill, does Bob have Espn ??? He sees the future and knew corky would be the weeks first star. 1 goal and 4 assists in the red hot stars fourth straight win . This guy is finding great chemistry with Perry and these two are on fire . A double threat who can score and thread the needle and a great draw man as well. This maybe the first time he’s received this great honour so congrats , keep up the great work

| Notes……
- Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson was terrible, the fix was in they barely did anything but still got paid
-Jon Jones is the greatest of all time no doubt
- pack ran over the short staffed flames last week.
- dont know the man but a guy named Phil Chisholm is running for the liberals in my riding. Someone doesn’t like the dude cause I saw about 5 signs with his faced punched out of it.
- had the Cuban crunch sub at subway, pretty damn good
- started hanging my Xmas lights other night. I bought a ton of them last year but this year 7 fuckin strings won’t work. Any electrical wizards know why??
- wal mart Mumford death rules non suspicious. Hmmm someone just ends up in an oven that was working fine that you can’t be locked in and burns. What could be suspicious there???
- penguins are very bad this year, Crosby should get traded.
- stars are white hot winning their 4 th straight. Before this heater we were in last place.
- oilers had no answer for thr leagues best offence last game.
- the jets are the real deal. Even Croke had 3 points . The line of ritz messervey and parsons is tough to handle, they are getting the job done.
- props to T Clark on maybe his best game last week. Guy was a force on the blueline .
- one knee ripper……Ovi, Crosby, Longo. He does it all the time and it’s usually a ripper for a goal. Well done Longo now we expect this every game .
- where’s grease?
- Sam Just Sam plays for the pack made a few saves and drew a big ovation from the crowd. Put his number out there as goalies are in big demand nowadays .
Mets are reportedly offering Soto 550-600 million. Bam jays are out.
- bruins fire Monty. The team is old and the shits, wtf was he supposed to do ? He’ll be scooped up soon by someone looking for a coach

| Week 22 Holy shit. One week away from the mid point.
New show Landman. Another Taylor Sheridan creation. Every show he makes is awesome. Revolves around oil companies in Texas. Billy Bob Thornton, John Hamm and Demi Moore. Worth a look.
Nice to see the judges in boxing are still corrupt.
Seeing Longo rip those one timers got me thinking. Is this the year he breaks the curse? Hopefully not.
I was confident Jayden Daniels had the ROTY wrapped up. Bo Nix is putting up a fight. Had to cash out early on BET365 just in case.
Edmonton ran into a buzz saw in Montreal this week. Probably time to move on from McDavid while they can still get something decent for him.
Why does Marner work so much harder when Matthews is out. If he played like that all the time they may win one more game in the playoffs.
Macqueen lit us up last week. Let that clapper go top shelf twice. Best player on the ice.
I knew Montgomery got fired but I looked at his record and it's unreal. 120-41-23. Crazy.
Shoutout to original Lion Matt Robinson for designing our new helmet decals. Much appreciated.
Bronny James only plays home games in the G league? Won't stoop low enough to travel on United Airlines with the team for road games. What a dick.
Jets vs Flames. Jets are hot. States comes back and gets 2. Jets win close on 4-2. Empty netter by Ritcey
Wolfpack vs Oilers First place on the line. Bob facing the Wolfpack always sounds wrong. Rumor is he asked to be traded back. Speedbag tips one in. Pack win 5-3.
LIONS vs Stars Big game here. Friends forever line takes over. 2 and 2 for all members. Lions win 6-3

| Week Twelve.
Just a smidge short of the half-way point of the season. Where did the time go? Work was stupid this week, so this’ll be short and to the point.
On, as they say, to the games…
Flames (6th place. 4-7-0. 8 points. -18) vs Jets (4th place. 6-5-0. 12 points. -2)
The early game this week pits two venerable franchises currently headed in opposite directions as far as playoff possibilities go. The Flames have struggled lately while missing some key contributors, while the Jets have taken flight.
The Flames have dropped six of their last seven games and are 1-4-0 in their last five skates. The Jets, on the other hand, have won five of their last seven games and are 3-2-0 in their last five games at the Stewtennial.
The Jets have won both games in this head-to-head so far this year: 1-0 and 5-1. Maybe the Flames flip the script this week?
Flames 4 – Jets 3
Wolfpack (1st place. 6-3-2. 14 points. +12) vs Oilers (3rd place. 6-4-1. 13 points. +6)
This week’s sandwich skate is a juicy one as our league’s first place squad takes on the third place (tied for second, really) group who only sit one point back of them in the standings. Whoa, nelly!
After a four-game winning streak, the VeinBros have slipped a bit lately. Losers of their last two, they have gone 2-2-1 in their last five games. Les Vertes have won four of their last six games and gone 3-2-0 in their most recent five Stewtennial soirees.
Playing a hunch here that the Oilers squeak this one out.
Oilers 4 – Pack 3
Lions (5th place. 5-4-2.12 points. -9) vs Stars (2nd place. 6-4-1. 13 points. +11)
The west-coaster this week features two teams only one point apart in the standings but feeling very differently about their situations. The Stars have gone supernova as of late, while the HartCats have been tamed somewhat.
The HartCats have lost four of six, though two of those defeats came via the shootout, and are 2-2-1 in their last five. Les Etoiles have won four in a row after dropping four straight before that and are the league’s hottest team at present, having gone 4-1-0 in their last five skates.
It says here the Stars stay bright.
Stars 4 – Lions 3

| Flames/jets……opener sees the flames and the jets. Jets are motivated after a terrible start and they take this 4-2. Parsons with a pair , proctor and ritz do the scoring and Findlay shuts the door in the win .
Oilers / pack……… after being destroyed last week I think venoit and skinner had a team meeting and rise up and take this one 5-3. Venoit with a pair, turple, Leblanc and finally skinner scores in the win.
Stars /Lions ………… red hot stars take this one 7-5 over the lions . Perry and Havey with 2 each , bright , Longo and Poirier do the scoring and glen closes the door in the win. Stars are flying and it continues with their first win over the lions
