York Wins Big
In yet another, sloppy affair the York Diamonds ran their modest win streak to 3 games with a 20-9 triumph over the Sentinel Devils last night.
Jeff Castronaro returned to the mound and worked a solid 4 innings before tiring in the fifth, to pick up win #1. Rick Yez relieved and worked out of a jam before giving way to Eric Foley, who was dominant the rest of the way.
York had three home runs, including Jeff Hofstetter's 4th and Rob Hofstetter and Pete Zakkak with their first of the year. Sentinel had 4 home runs by James Fensom, Gari Edwards, Paul Hynes, and Mike Tigani. Both of the aformentioned Hofstetters had 4 RBI and Eric Foley went 4-4 and reached base in all 6 at-bats. New leadoff man Brent Sterling had an incredible day scoring 4 runs, going 2-3 and adding 4 walks and Rick Yez lined a single to left for his first hit of the campaign.
Manager Paul Freeman met with the media as he ducked gunfire in the Jane/Finch corridor and had these comments: "All in all a nice win, Jeff was great until getting tired in the fifth, Spanky was effective as well and Eric was great. The offense came around with 18 hits and 15 walks and it was nice to see Zak hit a couple of balls hard. The only downside was the infield defense again...I know we have used a lot of different combos and that has not helped and that there have been a lot of tough balls but we have to start making some plays...6 more infield errors tonight won't cut it when the games really count."
