ROYALS - O's dead locked at 9
LOMITA, Calif., March 19 — Eight innings were not enough to decide an exhilarating 9-9 tie between the Burbank Royals (1-0-1) and the Valley Orioles (1-1-1) at Narbonne High School.
The Royals struck first, putting two on the board in the top of the first inning. But after a four-run second inning and a one-run fourth, the Valley Orioles were in charge with a 5–2 lead after four innings.
The feisty Royals regained a 6-5 lead with two-run innings in the tops of the fifth and seventh innings. However, the Orioles recaptured a 7–6 lead by scoring two in the bottom of the seventh.
With regulation time expiring, the top of the final eighth inning saw the Royals put three across the plate, taking a 9-7 lead. The Orioles responded with two runs, tying the game with a two-out, bases loaded walk.
Royals starter Tony Sulser (1-0, 1 save) and Orioles starter Frank Andrade (1-0) both went the distance, each earning his first complete game of the season.
On deck: The Orioles visit the Tiburones (0-2), and the Royals visit the Christmas Bail Bonds Cardinals (1-2), both at Pote Field on March 26.
