Bronson Slings 11-4 Complete Game in First Start for O's
SOUTH PASADENA, Calif., April 9—The Valley Orioles (2–3–1) saw newcomer Kevin Bronson (1–0) go the distance in an 11-4 victory over the Glendale Dodgers (3–3) at South Pasadena High School.
Bronson, who was given the nod in his first game with the O's after a last-minute lineup change, was supported by an aggressive Orioles offense (including a 3–3 outing by left fielder Paul Jensen and four stolen bases by Ward Dotson) and an equally impressive Orioles defense that was bolstered by clutch plays from third baseman Gary Cozine and center fielder Michael Nicodemus (who also went 2–3 at the plate).
The Dodgers struck early, scoring one in the top of the first. The Orioles answered with two in the bottom of the inning, and then exploded for six runs in the third, taking an 8–1 lead into the fifth when the Dodgers trimmed the lead to four runs.
The Orioles added three more insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth. The Dodgers manufactured one more run in the top of the ninth.
On deck: The Orioles visit the Christmas Bail Bonds Cardinals (1–5) at Pote Field on April 16. The Dodgers host the Tiburones (3–2) at San Fernando High School on April 16.
