Squires win, clinch final playoff spot
On a warm afternoon in Reseda, the Squires and Tornadoes came together for a game of league-wide importance. With the Royals taking down the Quakes in the morning clash, all the Squires had to do was win in order to cinch up a playoff berth, and win they did. Pitching and timely defense kept the game close early, with small ball being the order of the day. Then the starting arms departed, and the bats (and walks) came alive, providing an explosion of runs in the final half of the contest. The Tornadoes came back to take the lead in the 6th, only to have it snatched back by the Squires in the top of the 7th. Jonathan Lane then took the bump for 2 innings and shut down the Tornadoes bats while his teammates kept adding runs. Jonathan Oller capped the slugfest with a grand slam homerun that got out in less than 3 seconds. Tom Conroy also added in some key RBI hits including a bases clearing double in a big spot.
