Thorne throws gem
It's always a battle when the Tigers and Bandits meet and a hot Sunday morning at Birmingham proved to be no exception. On a must win day for the Tigers, Rich Thorne took the mound to try to subdue a team that had previously been scoring runs against the Cats in buckets. And battle he did, giving up only one run through eight. The problem was that the duo of Jeff Gould and Jeff Wells also pitched lights-out and the Tigers only could muster 4 runs. The Bandits rallied in the 9th, scoring two and putting the tying run on second, but Thorne came through as he had all game, inducing a fielder's choice out to end the game and keep the Tiger playoff hopes alive.
