Angels use small ball, eek out the win in the 8th.
This game was back and forth the whole way. After an unearned run by the Suns in the top of the 1st, the Angels quickly answered back, scoring 2 in the bottom half thanks to 4 walks and a few passed balls.
The Angels added 1 more in the 2nd and another in the 4th, while the Suns scored one more in the 3rd.
Then, in the top of the 5th with the Halos leading 4-2, the Suns grabbed the lead back after the first two batters were retired. Back to back walks were followed by 3 singles, and 3 runs came across.
Then Jon Vitti came in to pitch for the Angels, and the Suns never scored again. The Halos used small ball in the 6th and 8th to tie and the retake the lead.
Patience and fundamentals were key as the Angels edged the Suns in a great game by both sides. The Halos took advantage of 9 walks, stole some timely bases, and got the sac flies when they were needed most.
Jon Vitti got the win in relief, going 3 1/3, allowing only 1 hit, and striking out 2. CJ Johnson got the save, punching out 2 with the tying run on 1st base.
