Brewers Clinch Division With 4-3 Victory Over Tough Pirates
This was a tough battle throughout, with the Brewers' ace, Greg Bertrand and the Pirates' Robert Reeves, both going the distance and being very stingy with runs and hits.
In the bottom of the eighth, with the score knotted at 2-2, the Brewers got consecutive hits from Jim Fier and Joe Pita. Mark Behn (2-3 on the day) laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt to put runners at second and third. Then Mark Lenhoff (2-3, three RBIs) singled, driving in both runners, and giving the Brewers a 4-2 lead. The Pirates scored once in the top of the ninth to make it 4-3, and had a runner at second, when the final Pirate hit a popup, which first baseman Pita caught in foul territory, with his glove against the fence.
This was a great ballgame from start to finish...solid defense...timely hitting...great pitching...and it clinched the Division title for the 2013 Valley Brewers.
