Zack Salmon Shuts Down Carriage Inn
It was a battle of Zack's at Winklevoss Field on Monday night. Zak Kozlowski was the starter for Carriage Inn and Zack Salmon started for the Mudcats of Quinn Construction. Both pitchers started out well as both teams were held scoreless for the first three innings. Carriage Inn broke the 0-0 tie in the top of the 4th inning. With one out, Jeff Simon singled and Zach Grayson singled, putting runners on first and second. Dylan Wassel singled through the left side to drive home Simon, making it 1-0. The Mudcats used some great defense to end the inning. Catcher, Dom Francia, picked off Grayson at second base for the second out of the inning. Mike Kochman then hit a hot shot that was snagged by a diving Zach Fodor at third, ending the threat. The Mudcats tied the score in the bottom half. With two outs, Corey Rodgers doubled and then scored on Francia's double tying the score at 1. The Carriage Inn defense fell apart in the 5th. With nobody on and two outs, Carriage Inn committed 5 errors to go along with a Fodor single and a Nick Yobbi double that gave the Mudcats a 5-1 lead after 5 innings. In the top of the 6th, Ryan Kandsberger made a superb diving catch in left field to rob lead off hitter, Juls Leto, of extra bases. Salmon finished the 6th unscathed and ended the day with 6 IP and 1 run allowed. Nick Yobbi took over for Salmon in the 7th and ran into a bit of trouble. Yobbi allowed 3 hits and walked two batters as Carriage Inn scored two to make it 5-3. Yobbi kept calm and got Mike Pegg to ground out to second base to end the game.
