York Wins Third Straight
The new-look York Diamonds have begun to carve their own identity as they notched three straight wins. The streak began with a 7-1 win over the Sentinel Devils with Eric Foley pitching 6 strong innings.
On Sunday the club overcame an early 3-0 deficit to come back and beat the Devils 6-4, with Dan Fiorita picking up the win in relief. Evan DePiero ignited the offense with 4 stolen bases.
Last night York defeated the league-leading Toronto Cardinals 15-1 in a lightning-shortened affair. Dan Fiorita worked all 5 innings to notch his second win. Eduardo Cisneros had 4 hits to raise his average to .750. Mark Lombard, Eric Foley, and Andre Contreras each had 2 hits. Manny Rodriguez had his first hit as a Diamond and Nick Guglielmo and Pete Zakkak were solid in the field, with Guglielmo contributing a web-gem, with a headlong dive in shallow left field and losing his glasses in the process.
Backup utility leftfielder Paul Freeman made his first career appearance in right field and had these comments after the game as he met the hordes of assembled media, "Things are starting to come together, the new character and flavour of this team is starting to come out and when you win, everyone's happy. The defensive turnaround has keyed this winning streak and hopefully we can keep it going. The addition of snacks to the postgame smorgasbord has been a welcome addition, as well." Freeman also wanted to give an internet welcome to newcomers Eduardo Cisneros, Reuben Cisneros, and Dave Wright, and also cautioned that Nick Guglielmo's email access might have to be restricted after particularly good games when a cold beverage or two might have been ingested.
Next game is a Sunday doubleheader at Vaughan Grove vs the Brampton Knights at 6 pm.
