Diamonds Win Opener Against The Colts
York and the Colts played one of their typically wild playoff games with the Diamonds prevailing 9-8 in the tenth inning.
York scored a run in the second off starter Will Elliott as Rob Fraser's fielder's choice scored Pete Zakkak who had doubled. The Colts came right back to tie it in the third off starter Eric Foley as Pete McKay had an RBI single.
In the bottom of the 3rd, the Diamonds took a 4-1 lead as Pino Criminisi stroked a 2-run double, which was followed by Zakkak's sacrifice fly.
The lead held up until the 5th when the Colts scored 5 to take a 6-4 lead. York came right back to tie it in the bottom of the inning, as Eric Foley hit a 2-run home run. In the 7th the Colts took an 8-6 lead. In the bottom of the 8th, back came the Diamonds to tie it as Rudy Naraine and Don Cantwell both drew bases loaded walks and drove Elliott from the game.
In the top of the 10th, the Colts led off with 3 singles off of Andrew Lance and things looked grim. Lance then incredibly struck out Lou Vassos, Nate Bradley, and Rob Graham to preserve the tie.
With Bradley pitching in the bottom of the 10th, it was time for the walkoff heroics of Pete Zakkak. With one out, Rudy Narainw walked and Don Cantwell singled. After a fielder's choice nipped Naraine at third, Zakkak's double brought home Cantwell to end the classic affair.
York made 6 errors which led to 7 unearned runs...while the Colts did not make an error.
