It's Moving Day as Angels take over first!
The Angels prevailed in the battle for first place behind the pitching of manager Jess Whitehill, who threw 7 shutout innings, facing the minimum 18 batters through the first six innings, thanks to the arm of catcher Lorenzo Ramos, who threw out Chris Cooley, who had singled with one out in the first. The Sparrows threatened in the 7th as Bosco opened the inning with a single and Woodruff followed with a double to right but the shutout was preserved on a great relay from center fielder Charles Blakey to 2B Andrew Pelter who threw a bullet home to Ramos, who blocked the plate to prevent the run. Billy Johnson relieved in the 8th and gave up 4 runs (only 1 earned) in the bottom of the ninth as the Sparrows bats came alive and the Angels D suddenly deserted them after an exemplary game 8 innings. The Angels exploded for 15 hits, led by Cooper 2-3 (rbi), Clancy 2-3 (single, double), Blakey 2-4 (rbi), Pelter 2-4 (rbi) and Johnson 2-4 (2 rbi).
