Mudcats score 6 in the 8th to overtake Mariners.
No matter who shows up for these teams (and today only 17 players made it) it always ends up being a nail biter. No different today, as the Mudcats scored 6 in the last inning of play to overtake the always tough Mariners.
The Mudcats got off to a 4-0 lead in the 3rd as Torres, Matthews, Ruvalcaba and Becker drive in runs (all unearned). But in the bottom of the 4th the Mariners went crazy; scoring 8 runs on 9 singles. In the top of the 5th the Mudcats score 3 runs to close the gap as Matthews and Ruvalcaba drive in runs. But the Mariners scored in the bottom half, then the Mudcats score another, but again in the bottom of the 7th the Mariners scored again to keep their 2-run cushion.
With time running out, the Mariners led 10-8 going to the last (8th) inning. Torres walked, Walker singled, Mamdani singled (RBI), 2 Mudcats made outs and the 'cats still trail by a run with 2 outs. Becker coaxed a walk to load the bases, and then Bob Affrunti singled to RF to tie the game. Marcos Perez (huge game winner!!!) and Michael Rosenblum followed with 2-run doubles, and Roberto Torres pitched a perfect 9th to preserve the victory.
For the Mudcats, Blake Walker had a perfect 3-3 day. And for the Mariners, Jade Devitt, Lorenzo Ramos and Joey Gennaro each had 3 hits. Just another Mudcats - Mariners game!
