Condors Hang On For A Rare Win
Jay Smith, getting his first start and in only his 2nd appearance, goes the distance against a stubborn and playoff bound Royals squad. The Condors jumped put to a 5-0 lead in the 2nd. The Royals battle back to tie in the top of the 5th.
The Condors re-take the lead in the bottom of the inning, then the Royals get it back to start the 6th. The Royals lead is short-lived as the Condors score 4 in their half of the 6th.
Going into the 9th the Condors have a 5 run lead, but the Royals comes back with 4 and end the game with the tying and go ahead runs on base. Jay Smith’s control, only walking 1 batter, then striking out 3, in the final 2 innings, all with runners in scoring position, makes the difference. Lloyd Honda, in his 1st AB in 15 months, due to a torn Achilles and surgery, lines a sharp single to LF and adds another big hit in the 8th. Catcher Don Agronsky throws out 2 Royals’ base runners and collects 3 hits as do 4 other Condors’ batters. This was the most runs and hits the Condors got in any game this season. Every Condor has at least 1 hit or RBI. Good luck to the feisty Royals in playoffs.
