45s Win Opener
The Colt 45s were happy to leave Schafer Field with a win in their season opener vs. the LA Royals. Jumping out to a five run lead in the first the 45s watched the Royals answer with four of their own, highlighted by a three run bomb off the bat of Quinn Sanders. The 45s kept scoring runs and the Royals kept answering. The Royals were guilty of a few more errors and that was probably the difference.
Robert Lewis had three hits, including a double and notched the win in relief, pitching the final six innings. Mark Freeman threw out a runner at first from right and had two opposite field doubles, the second, putting the game away. Ernie Johnson made his debut with his new team, scoring four times.
All and all, a very good team effort against a fine Royals squad.
