Tigers Hold on for 3rd straight
Tigers thought they had an easy one after scoring 6 in the first and building a 9-0 lead in the fourth. To add to their confidence, Don Bixby was dazzling the Diablo hitters with his knuckler. But the Tigers took a cat nap, and while they did, they pee'd the Tiger lair. Sloppy Tiger pitching and defense in the 7th combined with clutch Diablo hitting soon had the tying and go-ahead runs on base. But the threat was quelled when 1st baseman, Allen "El Gato" Wilson, nabbed a shot down the right field line and turned it into an unassisted double-play.
The Cats couldn't add to their narrow lead in the 8th, leaving two with another runner thrown out at the plate. The Diablos started up where they'd left off, soon cutting the lead to one with the tying run on second.
The Tigers summoned their closer, Jerry Aebi, who after a Diablo sacrifice to get the tying run to third, coaxed the next two batters into a pop up and game-ending grounder.
