Pirates knock off previously unbeaten Reds
The Pirates clicked on all cylinders to up end the Reds at Birmingham with timely defense, situational hitting and outstanding pitching again from Rich Brito. Dennis Oliver continued to rake with 3 hits, an RBI and 2 stolen bases, Twitt Gibson had 2 hits and 2 RBI's plus 2 hits from Roger Stewart and 2 runs scored and 2 hits from Frank Gonzalez. Rich Brito tossed yet another gem, 7 hitting the Reds in a complete game win. Mike Pedote turned in the play of the game with Reds threatening in the 5th with runners at first and second, fielding a hot shot at 3B, stepping on the bag for the force out and firing to first for the double play.
