Wilson and Beltran to the rescue!
After dropping 5 in a row, the Tigers thought they had a pretty good shot at getting back in the win column, building a strong lead on a sunny afternoon at San Fernando HS. Stefan Marks, Troy Combs, Sean Donnellan, Rich Thorne, Vic Acosta and Rudy Beltran were in the midst of multi-hit games and Brian Reaber had already nabbed 2 of his 3 stolen bases. Defensively, Combs had run down 2 deep blasts to left to quell any Hound threats.
But just as they did in their match-up earlier this season, the Rockhounds charged back, scoring 5 in the 7th and 1 in the 8th to tie.
The Tigers rallied in the 9th, with Allen Wilson and Beltran each knocking clutch 2-out singles to drive in the go-ahead and insurance runs that gave the Cats the narrow victory.
Tip of the Tiger cap to Greg Frey who pitched a gutsy 9 innings, fighting out of numerous jams, and his Rockhounds who are a classy competitor.
