Angels Beat the Snugs (and the Heat)
The Angels jumped to an early lead, scoring 3 in the first and 3 more in the second off Red Sox starter Bob Elias and never looked back. Bob Diaz came in for the Sox in the third and held the potent Angels bats to 4 runs the rest of the way, but the damage was already done. David Loyola, Eric Castro and Tim Hopkins each went 2-4 and Wil Salazar went 2-5 including an inside the park homerun. On the hill, Whitehill fought the heat through 5, giving up 3 runs (1 earned) and Billy Johnson threw an efficient 4, giving up just one run on one hit. The Angels defense turned 2 deuces and shortstop Dave Tipton made some great plays at short, including the last play of the game, where he took one off the chest, caught the ball in his bare hand and threw to first for the game's final out!
