A real swashbuckler: Pirates tip Bucs in 10 inning walk off A whale of a game at Culver City High that went to an extra frame between the Pirates and Bucs. The Pirates were off to an early 8-0 lead after 2 innings thanks to a 2 run double from Sergio Rodriguez in the 1st and a 2 run triple by Robert Reeves in the 2nd. Mike Fortunato on in relief in the 2nd then shut the Pirates down scattering 8 hits through the next 7 innings. The Bucs battled back with 2 in the 4th, 4 in the 5th and another in the 7th playing some incredible defense at SS and CF robbing the Pirates of would be base hits to set up a dramatic 9th and 10th inning. In the top of the 9th Pirate SS Robert Reeves gunned down a runner going from 2nd to 3rd on a ground ball before the Bucs' Jon Scheuerman launched a deep double to right to knot the game at 8 and complete the Bucs comeback. In the bottom of the 9th with two outs Robert Reeves was hit by a pitch then Pirate clean up hitter Dennis Oliver stepped to the plate and launched a deep drive to left center field and as Reeves was rounding 3rd the ball bounced over the fence for a ground rule double holding Reeves at 3rd instead of ending the game. Rich Brito then hit a scorching ground ball that Buc SS Adam Daniels made a sensational play on with a dive in the hole and came up throwing to send the game to the 10th inning. In the top of the 10th inning Pirate SS Robert Reeves made two incredible plays on near base hit ground balls and Pirate ace Rich Brito got the 3rd out to send the game to the bottom of the 10th. In the bottom of the 10th Mike Pedote led off with a walk and was sacrificed to 2nd on a Sergio Rodriguez bunt and then moved to 3rd on a ground out. With two outs and first base open the Bucs elected to put Ken Rise on intentionally and pitch to John Petrocelli who promptly smoked the first pitch to center field for walk off line drive hit scoring Pedote from 3rd to win the game. The Pirates got 3 hits each from Reeves and Twitt Gibson.
