Burnham Throws No-hitter as Scarboro Defeats Portland 20-0
Monday was a day Sophia Burnham will remember forever as Sophia threw a no-hitter in Scarborough's 20-0 victory over Portland.
No Portland batter was able to locate Sophia's pitches during the game. Sophia threw a no-hitter, striking out six batters and walking one while recording her momentous feat. She got Walsh to fly out for the final out of the game.
Alyssa Williamson blasted two home runs for Scarborough. Alyssa went 2-2 in the game with four RBIs and two runs scored. Alyssa homered in the first and third innings.
Twelve runs in the first three innings helped Scarborough blow out Portland. A solo home run by Alyssa and an RBI single by Sophia in the first inning and a fielder's choice, a sacrifice fly by Alyssa, a sacrifice fly by Megan Murrell, and an error during the second inning fueled Scarborough's offense early.
Scarborough pounded Portland pitching, as six hitters combined for 14 hits, 14 RBIs and 14 runs scored.
Gould took the loss for Portland. She allowed 10 runs in two innings, walked three and struck out two.
Scarborough piled on six more runs in the top of the third. The inning looked promising, as Ashley Gleason singled, plating Chloe Gorey to kick things off. That was followed up by Brittany Plowman's triple, plating Ashley and Maggie Murphy.
Scarborough brought home four runs in the fourth inning, and matched that run total in the fifth. In the fourth, Scarborough scored on an RBI single by Brittany, scoring Abbie Murrell.
Scarborough built upon its lead with four runs in the fifth. Tori Hale's double got things going, bringing home Abbie.
