Colts Win 7-3

The Mississauga Colts got great pitching and timely hitting to defeat the York Diamonds 7-3 last night at Keelesdale Park. Starter Dan Dellaira mixed in a variety of off-speed pitches to keep York off-balance en route to 6 shutout innings. Cory Radziwon finished up for the save. Jeremy Service pitched well for the Diamonds before giving way to an effective Rick Yez in the seventh. Both lineups were missing many regulars resulting in a low scoring affair. York was led by newcomer Adam Dupont's two hits and Hyun Rho's pinch hit double. The Colts were keyed by Steve Pepi's 3-hit night including 2 RBI, Kevin Lee had 2 hits, Ken Collett 2 hits and 2RBI's and Rick Boutilier 3 singles and a stolen base. Veteran Ken Dicken made his first appearance for the Diamonds this season and played a flawless 2 innings at first base. Eric Foley made his first start behind the plate and gunned down 2 of 4 potential base stealers.

Skipper Paul Freeman met with the media in a subdued press conference and had these comments: "Their starter threw a great game, keeping us off-balance and Jeremy was great as well. Overall we got great pitching and played good D but we just didn't hit. I am proud of the way we tried to gut it out with a severely depleted lineup. This has been an incredibly frustrating season with so many guys missing games due to things beyond their control, work issues, family issues, vacations, pregnancies, just little things coming up here and there and we haven't put out anything resembling our best offensive lineup except in one or two early season games. I am very understanding of the reasons why guys are missing games but it is extremely frustrating nonetheless. There is real possibility that we could miss the playoffs because the teams behind us all play each other a lot and if we don't get everybody out to the games and get this thing in gear we might be on the outside looking in. Our record vs the Colts, Cardinals, and Falcons is a horrendous 1-5-1 and at this point push is coming to shove and we have got to realize that if we don't get it going then it will be a very long winter. Hopefully on Sunday we can get a good turnout and get things back in gear."
