Diamonds Come From Behind Then Lose Anyways
In Game 1, the Diamonds had victory within their grasp before some shoddy defense and wildness on the mound allowed the tying and winning runs to score. Jeremy Service battled gamely on the hill. Frank Diamanti had 3 hits for the Cards, and Steve Correia and both Vazzano brothers chipped in with 2 hits, including a Fabio Vazzano home run. Trung Duong started for the Cards and was relieved by Mike Rochon who got the win. For York, Don Cantwell, Neil Parekh, and Paul Freeman all had 2 hits and Freeman also added 3 RBI and an outfield assist. The game also featured Diamonds gold glove infielder Neil Parekh taking a header and subsequent face plant after tripping over the pitcher's mound while chasing a pop-up.
