Thorne and Bixby shut down Rockhounds
The Tigers know that when they play the Rockhounds, it's going to be tight the whole way, so they gave the ball to Rich Thorne. He came through with a masterful performance, giving up only 2 unearned runs in 6+ innings. And it was a good thing for the Cats that Thorne was so sharp as Hound manager Greg Frey managed his pitchers brilliantly, using 3 through the game to keep the Tiger batters off-balance the whole way.
The clutch hit of the game goes to veteran Don Bixby, who powered a bases-loaded clearing double to left to give the Cats the lead after they'd fallen behind early. Other notable offensive performances for the Tigers include: Tim O'Hair's 2 for 2 performance with a walk and Allen Wilson coaxing 2 walks and taking one for the team to reach safely all three times. Tiger tip-o-the-cap to the Rockhounds who are always a classy and tough opponent.
