Brewers Come Back With 8-run 9th For 11-5 Win
The Marlins took the lead in the very first inning and led 5-1 after six. The Marlins were ahead 5-3 with one out and one on in the top of the ninth, when Augie Alonso singled and Matt Trites doubled to tie the score at 5-5. Then Eric Cain was hit by a pitch, Jim Fier singled, and Jesse Tejeda singled to drive in two, giving the Brewers their first lead of the game, 7-5. Mark Behn followed with a walk, Mike LeCocq singled to drive in two, Chris Gauthier walked, and after another out, Alonso's second single of the inning drove in the 7th and 8th runs of the frame. Greg Bertrand pitched a complete game, shutting down a very strong Marlins lineup over the final three innings. The Brewers offense was led by Tejeda and Alonso with four hits each. Trites and LeCocq both contributed two hits.
The Marlins' third baseman, Mike Velez, made several web gems with the glove, while being a homer short of the cycle with the bat.
