Stallions shutout Condors
JR Esparza twirled 8 scoreless innings as the Stallions broke out in the 4th inning against Jon Curl. Racking up 14 runs in 4 innings, the horses gave Esparza all the offensive and defensive support he needed, capped by an inside the park homerun by Mike Morgan, who had three hits on the day. Mark Kaeller, Mike McCann and Rob Mojarro had two hits apiece in a decisively played Stallions game, rebounding from the stunning loss last week. Joey Martino closed down the game for Esparza in the ninth, getting 3 quick outs.
The Condors came out the gate with a pair of singles and a fielder's choice that put runners at 1st and 3rd with one out to start the game, but a Stallions double play ended the rally. Only one Condor reached second base for the rest of the game. Of note, in his second 1/3 of an inning of relief, speedballer Eric Rice faced 7 batters in the 7th, walking 2 and hitting 3, after which he was removed by league rules.
