Unexpected Duel In San Fernando
The Titans were only hoping to make a respectable game vs the high octane Bandits. What actually occurred was two masterful performances by the Bandits Jerry Whitaker, ( normally known for his hitting prowess) and Titans newcomer Perry Jenkins. The Titans struck early, with a lead off triple by C John Sosa, who was singled in by Mario Pena. The Bandits would threaten, but left the bases loaded..twice. The Titans added another run in the 5th inning, as Ss Rob Butland singled, stole second and was driven in by Dan Little. In the top of the 8th, perennial batting champion Whitaker crushed a shot to deep CF for a triple, then was promptly cashed in by Darren Hubert, chasing Perry. RP Pete Cesario held the fort for the 8th inning. Mario Pena then came in to save the game, retiring the Bandits in order to cap an incredible day of pitching and defense by both teams.
