Condors and Lightning Battle To a Tie
The Lightning had only 9 players, which bested the Condors who only had 8 players. The Lightning jump out to an early 3–0 lead by the 3rd inning. The Condors get 1 back in the 4th, then fall back to 5-1, in the bottom of the inning. The Condors score in the 5th and 6th to tie the score at 5. The 7th (and final) inning starts and the Condors get 1 on pool player Mike Fortunato’s 2BL.
The Lightning’s bottom of the 7th starts with a HBP, which puts the tying run on, followed by an E to put on the winning run. Both runners steal to advance to 2nd and 3rd.
Then a K, a sac fly by Chris Cooley to CF, brings the tying run in with a close play at the plate with Baron Grafft tagging at 3rd and sliding under the tag. Another pop out to Rick Gari ends the game with the winning run at 3B. The Lightning were never able to take advantage of the Condors 8-man defense, which turned into a 7.5-man defense with an injury and juggling of defensive players.
Both teams had numerous opportunities to break the game open, but neither could capitalize on the opportunities.
Rick Gari and Bobby Berry both went the distance with almost identical stats. Gari walks 4, Berry walks 5. Gari Ks 4, Berry Ks 5. Berry and Gari both hit 2 batters. Berry gives up 10 hits, Gari gives up 11. It was a close, but not very well-played game.
